About This Topic AI GENERATED

A scholarship essay is an essay written to a scholarship-granting agency, supporting why you should receive one of their scholarships.  However, scholarship essays are rarely straightforward explanations of why you are a deserving recipient, but, instead, usually allow you to choose from one of several prompts and write a compelling essay that addresses the prompt while demonstrating your worthiness for the scholarship.  These essay prompts are often similar to the college admission essay prompts employed by various colleges and universities.  You can find a good example of those topics on The Common Application’s admission essay page.

Education Richard Rodriguez and Mike Rose Both
Richard Rodriguez and Mike Rose both write about their education. In "I Just Wanna Be Average," Mike Rose recounts his experience in Catholic school as an Italian-American from a working class family background. Because of a school error, he was placed in the vocational tract at school. The experience taught Rose a lot about the low expectations place on students, the lack of effective role models in the classroom, and the inability of teachers to inspire their students. These problems are especially evident in the vocational tracking programs, because once Rose moves to the college prep courses, he realizes that he was being encouraged and challenged more. In "The Achievement of Desire," Rodriguez also writes about his experience in Catholic school, from a Latino-American working class family background. Unlike Rose, Rodriguez was somewhat of an over-achiever. He worked hard, and earned good grades until he was able to secure a scholarship to Stanford. Even though people see him as being remarkably successful, Rodriguez questions the impact that his education had on his relationship with his family and community. Both Rodriguez and Rose show how the education system fails to give students a sense of purpose.

African-American Parents Annotated Bibliography Abar,
In the Journal of Adolescence, a study explored the relationships between religiosity, maternal parenting style , student academic self-discipline and risk behaviors among African-American youth attending a parochial college (Abar, Carter, and Winsler, 259). The advantage of looking at this study is that it will give a good idea about African American youth who have had parenting from social classes above the poverty level and focus on the parenting and other skills that contributed to student success or failure that were influenced by religiosity and middle to upper class social status (there are possibly youth also who have come from poor backgrounds on scholarships).
