Military Operations Now and in the Future:
In the past few years, there have been substantial concerns and discussions on how to balance the need to "win" the current(s) with the need to be prepared for the next war. The mission of the United States Army is to not only fight but also win the country's present wars by devoting complete measures. The need to win these present wars is attributed to the fact that the military is in harm's way and the need to protect the nation's interest. hile these present conflicts are crucial, future war(s) are also regarded as important. As documented in the Joint Vision 2020 strategic approach, the Army needs to prepare for an uncertain future now while fighting to win its present conflicts. These preparations are based on the likelihood of the country to face a varying spectrum of interests, challenges, and opportunities that can win…...

Sustainment- ithin any military operation, there needs to be a balance of logistics that combines personnel, equipment, and strategy to optimally deploy forces and therefore accomplish mission procedures. Prominent military commanders note that the operational environment has so drastically changed that joint, interagency and multinational operations are now the norm rather than the exception. This provides the format for new organizational structures and mobility/distribution platforms that engender more robust opportunities for deploying, employing, and sustaining operational capabilities to a higher degree. In fact, "tactical, operational, and strategic lines have long been blurred in the sustainment arena, and now joint and service planners can contemplate a similar blurring of the functional lines of deployment, employment, and sustainment" (Juskowiak & illiams, 2006).
Essentially, the new environment requires different views and attitudes towards sustainment command and control organizations and ways to help command continue to improve critical sustainment. It is then logical to assume…...

Media and Military Operations
Recently there has been much debate about the effect of media reports on military conduct. Most of this has to do with the security that the military needs to conduct their operations and the dangerous are some of the reports that the media sometimes leaks out. A recent article found in the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy argued that First Amendment freedom was compromised because the military had such strong reviews when dealing with the security of media reports in both the Persian Gulf ar and Operation Enduring Freedom (Lee, 2002). The article was fair enough to indicate that the judicial proceedings of the Supreme Court really did not relate to the things that happen in military operations during a war. However, it was also concerned that stopping these individuals in the media was harmful to free expression but not as much as punishing individuals…...

Rescue of American Prisoners: U.S. Military Operation
The objective of this project is to carry out a rescue operation of 511 Americans and Allied forces from the Japanese POW (prisoner of war) camp very near the Cabanatuan. The six Ranger attalion element, Alamo Scouts as well Filipino guerillas reinforced the operations in order to liberate 511 Americans prisoners held by the Japanese. Overview of the operation reveals that it was one of the difficult and successful operations ever carried out by the Rangers. This study evaluates the military decision process regarding the operation, and discusses the competent strategy Lt Col Mucci and the subordinate employed in competing for the operation[footnoteRef:1]. Many people refer to the war between the Soviet Union and Afghanistan as the ussian Viet Nam. The reason that this nickname has been attached to this war is because it was in many ways similar to the Viet Nam conflict with the United States. In that situation the United States was a monstrous force to be reckoned with compared to the armed service abilities of Viet Nam. In the Soviet Afghanistan war it was similar in that ussia was a monster in size when compared to Afghanistan. In each case the smaller nation dug in their heels and refused to be intimidated by the larger nation. In the Afghanistan war with…...

In the words of Blanken and Lepore (2014), “wartime assessment involves the gathering and analyzing of information to update a decision maker’s understanding of an ongoing conflict” (p. 14). In the First World War and the Second World War, quite a number of parameters were used to measure or show success. These included, but were not limited to, the number of enemy soldiers captured, the number of those wounded or killed in action, and the terrain covered (attached text). Collectively, these are referred to as body count. As a measure of military effectiveness, body count has been used extensively, most particularly during the Vietnam War. Body count as a performance measure, however, has its own limitations. This, according to (attached text) is more so the case when the enemy appears to have been clearly overmatched. Further, body count effectively fails to take into account a critical fact – the ability…...

Trump, Biden National Security Strategies, and ussiaIntroductionThe U.S. has a National Security Strategy to protect the safety and security of the nation through cooperative efforts and partnerships with other nations and organizations. This strategy provides a comprehensive vision for the use of diplomatic, economic, military and intelligence efforts to protect U.S. interests abroad, deter potential adversaries, respond effectively to threats, and meet alliances and global responsibilities. The National Security Strategy also establishes a framework for evaluating security threats and assessing resources required to counter them.Typically, U.S. National Security Strategy changes depending on the administration in power (Goddard, 2022). Each president has his own approach to national security policy and thus his own version of the National Security Strategy. Prior to the 2022 strategy released by the Biden Administration, the most recent version was released in 2017 by the Trump administration which focused on reinforcing economic security and a strong international…...

The U.S. army no doubt is capable of producing the desired results in the proper time as and when it is demanded to operate anywhere in the world operation Just Cause which by today's standard is remote proved that the army was capable of speed and efficiency but showed that after the initial attack there was a lack of coordination in bringing civil unrest and chaos under control. The war in the Persian Gulf - which in fact has two series of operations, first the 'Eagle' and later the "Desert storm' involved sophisticated weapons and systems across continents proved some of the weakness of the army. The fiasco of operation Eagle ought to make us question the current setup of having so many packets and…...

Operation Just Cause was the United States (U.S.) military invasion of Panama that deposed Manuel Noriega in December 1989, during the administration of President George H.W. ush. The military incursion into Panama began on December 20, 1989, at 0100 local time. The operation involved 24,000 U.S. troops and over 300 aircraft - including AH-64 helicopter gunships, AC-130 aircraft and F-117A stealth aircraft, which was used for the first time in combat. These were deployed against the 16,000 members of the Panama Defense Force. This action was preceded by over a year of diplomatic tension between the United States and Panama, including an attempted coup against Noriega, and several months of U.S. troop buildup in military bases within the former Panama Canal Zone.
The operation began with an assault of strategic installations such as the civilian Paitilla airport in Panama City and military command centers throughout the country. The attack on the…...

Operation Barbarossa
The German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 is perhaps one of the most crucial turning points of World War II, as hubris of Adolf Hitler and the German high command was rewarded with an unexpected defeat. Code-named Operation Barbarossa, after a medieval German ruler, the German invasion was doomed from the start, based as it was upon a number of assumptions regarding the Soviet ability to repel an attack and the estimated length of the operation. By examining the immediate context of Barbarossa as well as the planning and outcome of the operation, one is able to see how the catastrophic German defeat in the Soviet Union set the stage for the Nazi's eventual downfall.
The plans for Operation Barbarossa were first drawn up in February of 1941, but Hitler's desire to invade ussia had been made clear years before, such that one may view Barbarossa as the…...

In addition, the Marines have a much smaller force than the army.
On the other hand, the army cannot be as selective as the marines because it needs to maintain a much higher number of troops. The article explains that the army "needs 80,000 new soldiers this year and must find them in a populace that is in many ways less willing and less able to serve than earlier generations were (Mockenhaupt, 2007, pg.86)." The article explains that teenagers and young adults are overweight and less fit than any previous generation. In addition, this generation of young Americans eats more unhealthy foods, watches more television, and engages in less physical activity than previous generations. The article further asserts that this generation is "more individualistic and less inclined to join the military. And with the unemployment rate hovering near historic lows, they have other choices (Mockenhaupt, 2007, pg.86)."

During their inspection, they recovered over forty pounds of documents and maps, including maps that showed the locations of U.S. billets in Saigon, indicating heavy surveillance by the Vietcong. They encountered few Vietcong throughout the operation, and only small numbers of soldiers were killed. Ultimately, the tunnel rats who scoured these tunnels helped form a band of tunnel rats that were used throughout the country to infiltrate and destroy Vietcong tunnels throughout the war.
There were some Vietcong left inside the tunnels, and those that did not give up were shot on sight. There are some accounts that there were people in the hospital too, including nurses, when the tunnels were destroyed, but that has not been verified. Before entering the tunnels, the tunnel rats would spray them with machine gun fire, and usually the Vietcong left to guard them were killed in the barrage.

Military Emergency Management/Terrorism Preparedness
It is reported in the work of Prelas, et al. (2009) entitled "Science and Technology of Terrorism and Counterterrorism" that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003, and is charged with the reduction of the "loss of life and property and protect the national from all hazards" including acts of terrorism. FEMA is to accomplish this through providing leadership and support to the national in a "risk-based, comprehensive emergency management system of preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation." (Prelas, et al., 2009, p.539) DHA/FEMA is reported to be under the leadership of the secretary and to coordinate "with the Commandment of the Coast Guard, the Commissioner of Customs, and Border Protection, the Assistant Secretary of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the NOC and other agencies and offices in the department to take full advantage of…...

Controlling
Every organization needs proper planning, leading, organizing, staffing, and controlling are aspects that are critical for the success of any organization. The aspects and principles of management are applicable to every organization. Proper planning is the first step to accomplishing any objective and as the saying goes "a project properly planned is half done." Therefore the aspect of planning is very important. Following the planning, the peripheral activities like organizing, leading, controlling and staffing are done. However these are done with respect to the master plan so that the aims and objectives of the organization for which the plan is made is achieved (Hartmann, 2012).
In this aspect in this paper we would try and understand how the managerial functions of planning, organizing, leading, controlling and staffing are done and are…...
