Psychological disengagement represents a coping mechanism used to resist negative evaluations. Ethnic minority students tend to disengage by devaluing the academic domain, which allows them to resist the negative impact poor grades have on their self-esteem. For ethnic majorities, disengagement can take the form of situation-specific discounting of a single grade or course. For high academic achievers, disengagement allows the student to persist in the face of adversity, but for low academic achievers disengagement can lead to the wholesale rejection of academic success and high rates of dropping out, but such patterns vary by ethnicity. This research report examines the relationship between academic performance and self-esteem for a small number of New York City college students and reveals that the pattern of disengagement along racial lines is anything but predictable.

Systematic review of ST-elevation myocardial infarction
OBJECTIVE: The door to balloon time is an important determinant of the prognosis of STEMI patients. To reduce D2B times, most centers implement a pre-hospital triage which involves the use of pre-hospital ECG to allow direct transfer of patients with confirmed STEMI to the PCI lab. Since most health facilities do not have PCI laboratories, a quick decision needs to be made regarding fibrinolytic therapy or transfer to a PCI facility. The most important factor determining this decision is the time taken from the onset of symptoms to arrival at a hospital facility and the predicted time duration for effective transfer. Through this systemic review, we sought to analyze the role of pre-hospital management in door to balloon time (D2B), door to needle (D2N) time and the long term mortality of STEMI patients.

Community policing strategies and implementation
The Violent Crime Control & Law Enforcement Act of 1994 heralded the beginning of a massive effort to reform policing strategies in the United States, in part through implementation of community-policing programs at the local level. Congress has allocated billions of federal dollars over the years since to support such efforts and by the end of the 20th century, close to 90% of all police departments serving communities larger than 25,000 reported implementing community policing strategies. However, empirical studies examining the effectiveness of this style of policing are limited and most reveal a modest improvement. This report examines studies that have revealed some of the factors that contributed to the failure of community policing programs to meet the expectations of policy makers. A lack of police organizational commitment and citizen leadership are major factors that have undermined attempts to implement community policing more fully.
