About This Topic

Total Quality Management (TQM) is a comprehensive organizational philosophy centered on continuous improvement, customer satisfaction, and the involvement of all employees in maintaining and elevating product or service quality. It appears frequently in business administration, operations management, and organizational behavior courses because it sits at the intersection of strategy, process design, and human resources. The topic is academically interesting because it challenges students to think about quality not as a single department's responsibility but as a system-wide commitment that shapes how companies compete, retain customers, and manage change.

The papers archived on this topic take a wide range of approaches. Some are conceptual, defining core TQM principles such as continuous improvement and quality circles and explaining how these mechanisms function within organizations. Others are comparative, weighing TQM against related frameworks such as Six Sigma to assess which delivers stronger performance outcomes. Case-study approaches examine how specific companies have achieved success through TQM implementation, while internationally focused essays explore how the philosophy translates across different business environments. Some papers narrow their scope to a single performance improvement area within a chosen organization, making the analysis more applied and concrete.

A strong essay on TQM needs a focused thesis that goes beyond defining terms and instead argues something specific — about implementation challenges, measurable outcomes, or the conditions under which TQM succeeds or fails. Evidence drawn from organizational examples, process data, and employee or customer outcomes tends to carry the most weight. A common pitfall is treating TQM as a universal solution without acknowledging the internal change management obstacles that frequently derail implementation in practice.

Dental Assistance (Dental Surgery) I Started Out
I started out as a dental assistant at 19, then became an instructor, and was promoted to a program director before opening my own teaching program in 2000. I work part time at a community college and teach my dental auxiliary courses on the weekends. In that way, I have an extensive background of practice, reflection, observation, and application that is connected to my job. Since I really have two jobs – dentistry and teaching – and the essay wishes me to employ just one, I will focus on the overarching one: dentistry. Note that these four terms - practice, reflection, observation, and application - represent those used by David Kolb's experiential learning theory and indeed my essay format will be designed according to Kolb's theory so as to best illustrate the contributions of experience to my dentistry background. Kolb considers experience a source of learning and cites four elements that contribute to experiential learning. These are: Concrete experience (doing); Reflective observation (observing); Abstract conceptualization (thinking, generalization); and Active experimentation (planning, testing and application). The essay will connect my experience to each of these four phases in turn.

Ford Motor Company -- Flowchart Analysis Ford
Ford Motor Company is one of the largest manufacturing companies in the global marketplace. Fiscally, Ford has had two major recent periods; one of prosperity, one of decline. Period #1, the late 1980s to 19979, showed a steady pattern of growth, about 5-7% per annum. Sales in 1998 were down 6%, up 14% in 1999, giving the decade an average of 5.4% growth and a profit margin slightly above the industry of 7-9%. Costs of goods remained consistent at around 72%, and debt/leverage ratios steady. Since 2000, though, and most especially since 2007, Ford has seen its sales and profits diminish, its international market share decline, and its ability to compete effectively erode. For the primary market segment of Ford, the automotive side, financial and marketing decisions are based on numerous trends: competitive pricing, cost of goods and projections, ability to recap money through subsidiaries (maintenance, Ford Credit, etc.), global versus U.S. sales, and demographic trends)
