About This Topic

Supply chain management refers to the coordination of processes, people, and resources involved in moving products from suppliers to end customers. It is a core subject in business programs, appearing in operations management, logistics, procurement, and strategic management courses. The field is academically interesting because it sits at the intersection of organizational strategy, economics, and process design, requiring students to analyze how companies balance cost efficiency, reliability, and responsiveness across complex networks of suppliers and customers.

The papers archived on this topic reflect a wide range of approaches. Case-based analyses examine specific companies, including World Co Ltd, Wal-Mart, and Cessna, to assess how real organizations structure their supply chains and logistics systems. Other papers take a planning and strategy focus, exploring purchasing strategies, inventory management, and decision-making under uncertainty through frameworks such as real options approaches. Some essays are broader in scope, addressing why supply chain management deserves special organizational attention or surveying purchasing and procurement strategy as a discipline in its own right.

A strong essay on supply chain management begins with a clearly scoped thesis — whether arguing for a particular strategy, evaluating a company's approach, or analyzing a specific operational challenge. Evidence drawn from company data, annual reports, and documented business outcomes tends to carry the most weight. Students should connect operational details to broader strategic implications rather than simply describing processes. A common pitfall is treating supply chain management as purely technical; the strongest essays recognize that supplier relationships, customer expectations, and accountability structures are equally important dimensions of effective supply chain performance.

Logistics Capabilities on E-Commerce Performance:
In evaluating the impact of logistics capabilities on e-Commerce performance for the University of Phoenix several significant insights were gained from the analysis completed. As the university is a services-based organization that strategically designed to get our customers, the students, to their educational and professional goals, the use of logistics is critical to the attainment of that mission. In the studies of best practices in using logistics to increase the efficiency and strengthen the customer experience of service industries, the relationship between exceptional 3rd party logistics (3PL) orchestration, insightful use of analytics for managing supply chains all have a significant positive effect on firm performance (Cho, Ozment, Sink, 2008). For services industries such as our university, a key part of our delivered value is the student experience, the enrichment of their field of study through effective use of limited resources, and the ability to selectively bring in the most valuable resources to learning situations. This triad of factors anchors this analysis: enriching and optimizing the student experience; using resources, both the time of our instructors and facilities themselves, as efficiently as possible; and the ability to optimize resources for student's attainment of objectives. What emerges from this analysis is a model for the university to use logistics to streamline e-commerce and ensure the highest quality level of student experience is delivered, that constraints of resources are managed, and all time and resources are optimized to the point of performance excellence for each discipline taught.

Cloud Database Service on User
The pervasive nature of cloud computing is re-ordering the economics of enterprise software, leading to widespread integration and adoption of database services. Moving from capital expense-driven (CAPEX) based spending to operating expense (OPEX) funding models, cloud computing platforms are accelerating in adoption throughout all levels of businesses today. In large-scale enterprises, cloud computing is being increasingly relied on as the infrastructure layer of global computing platforms. Examples of this include two-tier Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) strategies that scale across Asia, Europe and North America. In addition, cloud-based database services are being used today for unifying the diverse Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms across diverse business models and cultural boundaries. The same holds true for the integration of Supply Chain Management (SCM) systems on a global scale as well. The reliance on cloud database services is one of seeking to integrate systems of record and the many diverse workflows into a single, unified strategy. Databases used to create the single system of record across enterprise that also rely on ERP, CRM and SCM systems require a standard level or quality of service in order to complete basic and advanced business strategies.. These three application areas, ERP, CRM and SCM, are the most prevalently used throughout enterprises. They are also the three most critical application areas that are driving the global adoption of cloud database services as well. The question this research proposal looks to address is how effective cloud database services are in defining user intentions of adoption and overall satisfaction with these technologies within a business context.
