Personal Statement: My Accomplishments
My Accomplishments

It was Anatole France who once said, "to accomplish great things, we must dream as well as act" (Claybrook-Lucas, 2003, pp.118). It is through hard work, sacrifice, and sheer determination that I have managed to achieve some of the accomplishments I will detail in this text. As a firm believer on the need to put one's best foot forward, I have always ensured that even in seeking to accomplish a specific goal, I go beyond that which is expected of me.

My first major professional assignment was with the Zenith Bank Plc. Lagos, Nigeria, where I was the appointed the bank's Customer Service Unit Head. Being my very first professional assignment, I must say that at the end of it all, I managed to accomplish a number of feats. Firstly, through nurturing better business relations with clients, I was able to further enhance the bank's ability to…...

This is indeed an advantage, considering the number of hours I spend at work and my sincere commitment to my family's needs.

Both distance and campus education can be advantageous to students depending on their personal needs. Each student must decide which of these offer the most effective learning style based on personal traits and interests. For some individuals, Internet courses that let students learn at their own pace and review content until completely understood is the best method. Others learn best in an on-campus environment where they can…...

Life Has Been My Work as a
Pages: 3 Words: 718

life has been my work as a volunteer camp counselor. I participated in the YMCA program as a way to serve my required volunteer hours to graduate. While it started out as a requirement, it soon became something that I enjoyed and I found that I was good at it.
That experience led me to choose the field I want to work in. I am going to work in the field of sports management. My summers at the YMCA camp gave me the opportunity to mediate children in various sport activities. Whether it was baseball, basketball, or other activities I felt I was contributing something to their lives by introducing them to the concepts of sportsmanship, and team playing. It was rewarding for me to help resolve issues that would come up. Sports management is a field that in my opinion needs some integrity pumped into it. With million dollar…...

My Goals For The Next Five Years

Setting goals: SMART

Setting goals is an important part of moving forward in life. Martin Luther King Jr. once said: "If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward." Of course, all of us would like to fly forward and reach our goals easily. But often long-term goals take a great deal of work to achieve, and are the cumulation of a series of short-term goals that are undertaken step-by-step. My ultimate personal goal in life is to be a good mother to my son and to financially as well as personally support him on his journey to becoming a pilot while I pay off my house. My long-term academic goal is to complete my major successfully. I am studying to be a respiratory therapist.…...

Autobiography of Iviannette Figueroa
In this paper, I will describe my life and how my life experiences have shaped the person that I am today, how they have impacted my dreams, and what I intend to do in the future. In this paper I explore my childhood and how the difficulties that I encountered in that childhood have helped shape the woman I am today. The woman that I am today is a mother, a wife, and a student working towards admission into the respiratory therapist program. Generally, I have worked hard to put a difficult childhood behind me. As a result, I have to acknowledge that an autobiographical paper was very challenging for me. I do not like to think about how my childhood has impacted the woman that I am today. While I am generally self-confident, I realize that the things I like the least about myself are those…...

Did his upbringing seem to influence desire to be philanthropic? If so, how?

But his parents planted the seed of entering into philanthropy. Mrs. Gates always stressed on Bill why he needed to begin philanthropy. Someone who was at Bill's father's law office one night recalls that he had quarreled with his parents stating that he was just trying to run his company. Professional Accomplishments He Was a College Dropout
Pages: 2 Words: 574

Professional Accomplishments
He was a college dropout that slept on his friend's dorm room floor, returning coke bottles for five cents a bottle and walking seven miles across town every Sunday night to get a meal at a Hindu temple. As one of the pioneers of Apple Computers, a multi-billion dollar corporation, Steve Jobs has used his drive, ambition and passion to fuel his professional accomplishments.

When I first started at Wells Fargo as a teller, I made about the same as a high school babysitter. Undeterred, I put my best foot forward, cultivating customer relation skills and basic accounting principles to move forward- like Steve Jobs, I aspired to be something more. Over my 16 months at Well Fargo, my aspirations bore fruit in the form of four promotions, when making twelve dollars was no longer the standard and a base salary took its place. Simultaneously, I earned my securities licensing.…...

President's Scholar Several of My Childhood Friends
Pages: 2 Words: 672

President's Scholar
Several of my childhood friends succumbed to the temptations of gang life, as we grew up in a low-income, predominantly Hispanic neighborhood in Hawaiian Gardens, California. I've witnessed many people my age and younger act out of desperation and hopelessness and a false sense of self-esteem. Once, I spoke to one of my closest childhood friends about his spending inordinate amounts of time with some known gang members. Confronting him made him noticeably uncomfortable. "Leave me alone," he said. "Maybe if you just got to know them better..." The lure of that life was sometimes hard to resist, as it served as a major social and political outlet for many people my age in the neighborhood. I struggled often with designing my own life path amid the hardships I witnessed around me.

Luckily, my parents were good role models. Both teachers, they taught me the value of a higher education…...

Personal Quality Talent Accomplishment Contribution
Pages: 2 Words: 715

I felt I was the only person who did not look at my image every time I passed a mirror, every time I happened to walk by a reflective surface.
Although I had grown up in the business, fashion seemed increasingly meaningless to me, just an arbitrary way of selling a false self every month, and making people feel bad about their appearance. It was all about trends, not beauty: one moment everyone loved skinny jeans; then suddenly skinny jeans were 'so last season.' I wanted to break free of this perpetual fashion show. What I really loved doing was working on my computer -- upgrading it and setting new challenges to understand how to work it. I quickly became the 'go to' person when anyone had a computer problem, although I never surfed fashion blogs like the other students. Reading PC World online was my pastime of choice.

It gradually…...

I was in the back of the pack the first mile. I hear a dull roar, at first I think it is my ears popping. I realize it's the sound of the crowds.
My coach's voice, roaring out the mile splits. My first mile at 5:20, second at 11:20, and later I learn I finished at 16:54. My teammates from the other races, I think I can pick out their voices, cheering. All I can think of is the pain. During moments like these I know love cross-country more than anything else in the world. You only go through such intense pain for something you love. The last hill is the longest one of all, they call it the "Reservoir," I think because you need every reservoir of your energy to survive.

I know I have no hope of winning. The team has no hope of winning, but my legs charge…...

All Human Accomplishment Is in Vain
Pages: 4 Words: 1347

death means that all human accomplishment is in vain, according to Tolstoy. Do you think Tolstoy is right about this? Explain and defend your reasons for your answer.
Death is indeed inevitable, but Tolstoy was incorrect in his conclusion that death's finality and unavoidability meant that it made all human efforts on earth irrelevant and in vain. Tolstoy is incorrect about this idea because he devalues the importance of human effort and human activity. Human activity on earth is the point of living: the point of human existence is to grow and to develop. Often the desire to accomplish certain things and to achieve certain things is more important than the outcome. For example, if a runner desires to win and run a 10K marathon, often the experience for him that is the most shaping and influential is the time he spends training for the marathon -- all the early…...

The situation becomes so painful that the victim cannot even speak. It is no doubt a nightmare to go through and those who have experienced it can only feel the pain that it gives. Humility in Leadership in My
Pages: 2 Words: 437

It seems that the frequency of news reports about powerful and influential leaders in both business and politics suggests a connection between the impulse to be in charge and the potential for egotistical insensitivity or, in many cases, much worse.
Today, I am more proud of the fact that I have learned that being in positions of leadership provides the most genuine opportunity to demonstrate humility by resisting the natural urges and responses that often corrupt even those who may not necessarily have sought ought those trappings of leadership in the first place. In my opinion, humility and integrity in leadership is one of the most important lessons and the higher the levels of authority or influence that one reaches, the more important those concepts become and the greater the potential harm that can come from the alternative. I hope that in any future opportunities to be a leader of…...
