Denis McQuail (1987) states that there are common reason for media use including information which involves assessing information about "events and conditions in the immediate surroundings, society and the world." (p.73) McQuail additionally stated the media was used for information in "seeking advice on practical matters or opinion and decision choices and to satisfy curiosity and general interest as well as for learning and self-education and gaining a sense of security through knowledge." (1987, p.73) The analysis of the media use of the writer of this work has found that the media use of the writer is for many reasons that fall within the framework of the Use and Gratifications model.
