Biblical Heroes

The Obedience of Moses

Of all of the Old Testament heroes, I have always found the character of Moses to be the most fascinating on a personal level. Perhaps the most fascinating character of Moses is that he is reluctant and unpretentious (Ward, 2004). The first great feat of Moses was the lead the Israelites out of Egyptian bondage. After that, Moses becomes the Israelites direct link to God. In serving as such, he transformed the face of the Israelites from a repressed group of former slaves to that of a great nation. Moses was a great leader and was held by high regard to as people, but I have always found his humility to be inspiring, as well as his worthiness to talk to God directly.

I have always felt that Moses relationship to God was inspiring. Moses' relationship to God was personal. It was also one of complete obedience. Moses' was not always popular with those whom he led in many times his decisions were doubted, or even met with revolt (Padfield, 2011). The most admirable trait about Moses was that he was able to put all of these human problems aside and be obedient to God. He placed God's wishes above those of man and in doing so provided not only an example of what we should all strive for in our relationship to God, but also a means for the Israelites and others after them to improve their relationship with God. Moses had to conquer his own fear through obedience (Definbaugh, 2012). Moses did all of this without letting it go to his head. He remained devoted, yet humble.

Living in the world, we all face many of the same decisions that Moses faced, only not perhaps on such a grand level. Sometimes we have to make decisions that are unpopular a certain people. This is one we have to do soul searching and seek what God wants is to do, rather than to seek the opinions of man. Moses never wanted to be the leader of the Israelites in to achieve greatness. God thrust it upon him and he had to obey. However, that is not to say any did not resist. We are all called a pond by God to do things in our daily lives. If sometimes it is not what we want to do. If we do not do what god wants is to do, and instead we choose our own path it separates us from God. However, if we follow God's will, then it always brings us closer to God. I see examples of this every day in my own life,
