I believe competencies is a weakness of mine -- not because I have been proven to be incompetent in the past or have not demonstrated sound judgment in communicating with other nurses and patients -- but that I feel that I have room to grow in this area of core skills. I view this as a weakness primarily because I want to perfect my skills in the core competencies area and I have not done so yet. Medication prescribing is one particular area that I feel that I can do better at, mainly because I do not like prescribing and try to avoid it if possible. I feel that there are alternative methods that work well -- however, I realize that in this profession sometimes a prescription can make all the difference and I want to be able to discern precisely when that is.
