It will allow me to complete my Master of Science degree in Transportation Management, and provide me with the skills to reach my career goal of a full-time management position.
Academically, I have a long-standing commitment to excellence in professional education. Currently, I am pursuing a Master of Science degree in Transportation Management (MSTM) at the Mineta Transportation Institute of San Jose State University. Prior to my enrolment at San Jose, I earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in December 1994.
As a registered Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California, I have seven years of professional experience, with five in a management capacity. In pursuing my MSc at San Jose State University, I am endeavouring to improve my existing management skills.
Ultimately, I wish to incorporate my skills within a full-time management position.
I am presently at a critical point in my academic career, as I am completing my fourth and fifth courses in the ten-course program at San Jose. As such, the receipt of a financial award would allow me to complete my matriculation in a program for which I have demonstrated my academic competency.
In addition, the receipt of this award would ensure that I am able to develop my career goals, and improve my management skills and abilities. In enabling my to meet these goals, I will be able to make a more meaningful contribution to the California Department of Transportation.
Completing an MSc in Transportation Management will help me to reach my academic and career goals. Without such an award, I am unsure if I will be able to continue my matriculation in my program.
As such, receipt of this award will make a crucial difference in my ability to reach my full potential in my chosen field.
