Tuesdays With Morrie

Sometimes you cannot believe what you see; you have to believe what you feel. And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them, too-even when you're in the dark. Even when you're falling" (Albom 61). This phrase is important for a number of reasons. It really is at the core of what this book is all about and what it means. Morrie tells the student she has to open up and trust others, and that is just what happens with the author, he has shut himself away from his old professor, but when he opens up and trusts him, be begins to open up to others and gain their trust, and he changes his life in the process. Always obsessed with work, he begins to see there are other things to life, and that he has been chasing the wrong things throughout his career. This trust helps him form a bond with Morrie that is far more lasting than the bond they formed in college, and it heads him down the right path in his personal life.

Morrie Schwartz is a kind and brave person, and that is why he is so sympathetic in the story. He sometimes admits he is afraid, but for the most part, he is very dignified and brave in how he faces death. He is also remarkable candid, and that is quite appealing too. There is another reason that I identify with him as well, and that is because he helps Mitch, even though he is dying. He is very selfless, and he worries more about other people than he worries about himself. He is also honest, on both his good days and bad days, and that makes him quite admirable, too. He is a charming man, and the story really shows what an effect he had on his students when he was teaching, too. I admire him because I think he made a difference in many people's lives during his lifetime, and I would hope that someday I could say that about myself. I also think that sharing his story with the millions of people who read it has helped people face their own problems with more dignity, and I think that is important, too.
