Time Management
During the dat I spent the most time on average at work, 3.71 hours per day. I spent almost as much time in social settings, an average of 3.29 hours per day. I spent an average of 2.57 hours per day in class and 1.43 hours per day preparing for class. Athletic activities accounted for an average of 1.7 hours of my day. Eating consumed an average of 2 hours per day; hygiene and Internet each an average of 1 hour per day. Television took up almost none of my time, with an average of .1 hour per day.
Judging by the fact that I spend 1.43 hours per day studying or preparing for class and more than twice that amount of time socializing, I seems like I do not spend enough time studying. Although having a social life is important, so are academics. However, when I add the 2.57 hours per day spent in class to the 1.42 hours per day preparing, the total is a more respectable 3.99. Considering this is more average time than I spend at work, I believe I have struck a balance between activities that can be considered "important" and those that are more leisurely. Moreover, I do not spend much time on the Internet, with only an average of 1 hour per day and one-tenth of one hour per day watching television.
3. I will spend even less time on the Internet than I already do, cutting down the average of one hour to only 30 minutes per day. Although an hour average per day cannot be considered excessive, cutting that time in half will free up my mind for studying. I will use the Internet only as a tool for communication when I am not using it for school-related research.
One of my biggest time consumers is socializing. Although it would not be healthy to cut back too much time from my social schedule, friends do come in the way of time I could be spending improving my grades or at least my understanding of course materials. The more than 3 hours per day I spend socializing will be cut down significantly, to an ideal average of 1.5 hours per day.
Athletics are highly important to me and my overall sense of health and well-being. In fact, I believe that athletics are a key to keeping my mind sharp for school. However, I spend almost 2 hours on average per day doing athletic activities. That time can be used more wisely while still reaping the benefit of physical exertion. I will cut my sports time down to 1.25 hours on average per day. Condensing my workouts will free up more time for academics.
4. I will keep a time log until I am spending more time on studying and classes. The time log will help me monitor my progress especially as I endeavor to reduce my time spent socializing and on the Internet. The log will also help me become aware of other activities that might be consuming more time than they should, or activities I might not have thought of the first time I kept the log. If I find that I am not making more time for school after adjusting for the time consumers, I will consider cutting down on my work hours as well.
