Organizational Culture

Organization culture analysis

Organizational culture is one of the fundamental areas that need absolute understanding in order to cope with the behavior and the beliefs as well as the values that an organization may have. This is due to the fact that it is through organizational cultures that an organization ensures unity, loyalty, competition, direction and identity for the organization that will set it apart from others in the same industry (Kayla L., 2013). This paper hence examines the organizational culture of a church in the neighborhood that has a large membership to the tune of 500 people and worships on Sundays.

The mission of the First Baptist Church that was observed in this context is "To know Christ and to make Him Known"

The vision is to ensure the continued revival of the people of God and ensure that each member has a hand in propagating the gospel, either directly or indirectly.

The organization structure takes more of a democratic approach with the pastor being at the to and a co-pastor being by his side. There are then the deacons and the elders with youth chair-person leading the youth. They however do not overemphasize on the ranks and the pecking order since even the youth leader is often allowed to lead services and even preach occasionally.

Data collection method

The research method that is most appropriate for this research is the use of focus groups, interviews and surveys

Focus groups: this was seen as the best method in getting the deeply rooted attitudes and beliefs that existed among the church members. Since the bond between the church members and their church, to each other and even their faith is very personal, it would be fundamental to capture the feelings and the attitude of the members and this can best be achieved through focus groups. This information collection was done orally and no writing is expected of the participants hence free will participation.

Interviews: is the other significant method that was used to get the personal views that the members hold about the church and the faith and this way the researcher can get the effects that the church has on the individual. This method has the advantage of personal contact so the kinesthetic responses will be observed and recorded as well.

Surveys: these were used in collection of numerical data from the relevant offices and participants. This gave data in terms of numbers and percentages on the attendance, participation and groupings within the church.

Data analysis

The data was analyzed depending on the type of data that was collected, for instance the numerical and general information. For the numerical data, there was plotting of the numbers on a table and later on graphs drawn in order to give a visual representation of the variance in numbers especially in terms of age of the church members and their numbers in participation in the church activities.
