Technology Learning Environ

New technology has become an integral part of the learning environment, and not just an adjunct to it. This article demonstrates the limitations of using technology in the educational profession. First, technology depends on human input and guidance in order to be properly and relevantly developed. Second, technology must be fully integrated with the learning environment; it can't and shouldn't float on top of it. Rather, technology needs to be as mundane as books in order to be an effective media. Third, technology is not limited to the use of computers and their peripherals. Rather, technology gives rise to a multitude of varied media formats that can be used to stimulated enthusiastic learning and critical thinking.

The development of new technologies for the educational sector should ascribe to the ultimate philosophical goals of learning. Educational professionals and engineers should collaborate on the end-user needs, and the technologies need to be developed as goal-oriented mechanisms. Furthermore, educators need to be aware of social role expectations so that class, gender, race, and ethnicity do not preclude access to or understanding of new technology. Similarly, engineers need to take into account the diverse needs of a heterogeneous society when developing educational technologies. Sociological and psychological studies can lend insight into the particular ways educators and engineers can tailor their research, development, and implementation programs.
