Summary of Research Proposal OR Research Proposal

You may embed your faculty approved research proposal in this application (as long as it contains ALL of the points below).

OR You may summarize your research proposal in several pages. The summary MUST address ALL of the following points and use the numbering system below.

Summarize the problem (or opportunity).

Energy has received considerable attention in the past few years because of the increased environmental impact of conventional sources of energy that rely on burning of fossil fuels. Research has shown (Remo, 2015) these conventional energy sources have contributed to global climate change, which continues to affect the world's ecosystems. Nuclear energy, which is energy in the nucleus or core of an atom, offers a suitable alternative source of energy that could help in dealing with the problem of global warming or climate change. However, the share of nuclear energy in the global energy mix has decreased at a time when it should be increasing as shown by global warming and climate changes. Therefore, the phenomenon of decreased nuclear energy usage is a problem that should be critically analyzed. It is important to examine what contributes to decreased nuclear energy usage when global warming and climate changes indicate an increased need to use nuclear power.

Summarize the purpose of your research.

A qualitative content analysis will be conducted to explore the phenomenon of decreased usage of nuclear energy at a time when global climate change indicates the need for increased usage of nuclear energy. The purpose of the proposed qualitative research study is to explore the phenomenon of decreased usage of nuclear energy despite its potential to solve global warming and climate changes. Through the study, the researcher...

Through this methodology, the researcher conduct a systematic analysis of the contents of gathered data and inductive strategies geared towards the creation of patterns and themes. The researcher will create inferences through examining repetition of phrases and words in existing text on the phenomenon of nuclear energy usage. A qualitative content analysis will enable the researcher to create themes and patterns relating to the phenomenon under investigation will be derived from comparing, contrasting, and categorizing the content of qualitative data obtained regarding the research problem. The research process will entail creating a start list from research questions followed by determination of the material to be analyzed. The next step in this process is defining the structure of the analysis based on theoretical perspectives and determining a category system for analyzing the material. The researcher will then formulate coding rules for every category and analyze material based on coding rules to identify themes and patterns.
Describe (and include) your data collection instrument(s) Include the questions your will ask. If you are doing Appreciative Inquiry, Action Research and/or Process Consultation and the final questions have not been developed (because you must work with the client to develop them during the next term), please list the questions you will use to re-engage with your client and/or initiate Process Consultation, Action Research, and/or Appreciative approaches

Data for this qualitative content analysis will be collected through an extensive literature search of studies published within the last 5 years regarding decreased usage of nuclear energy. A mixture of manual and electronic (computer-aided) coding will be utilized to identify relevant literature, especially peer-reviewed journals. This will entail a manual comparison of keyword search results to concordance concepts helps in dealing with probable inaccurate matches between concordance terms and computer search keywords. The source data for this qualitative content analysis of the phenomenon of decreased usage of nuclear energy will be full-text journal, peer-reviewed journal, and historical articles from Google search engine and three online databases i.e. EBSCOHost, ProQuest, and Emerald Insight. "Decreasing" words or phrases that equate to sustainability will be the search keywords. Through these words or phrases, an article will be selected based on its alignment with the research question and its focus on the phenomenon under investigation.

The research questions for the qualitative content analysis are as follows:

1. Is nuclear energy a clean and safe source of power?

2. What are the environmental impacts of nuclear energy?

3. What is contributing to the decreased use of Nuclear Energy despite its potential to solve climate change?

4. What measures can be utilized to reverse the trend of decreased nuclear energy usage to help resolve climate change?

Describe how your data will be analyzed

Data analysis will entail comparing, contrasting, and classifying the content of qualitative data. This will be carried out in a systematic and objective manner that effectively describes the meaning of the content. During data analysis, the researcher will provide general information regarding the data before reporting results of the content analysis process. In this case, the researcher will provide an overview of the data source based on the research propositions. This will be followed by making comparisons of the data, which will also involve questioning the emerging patterns and themes as well as emerging conceptualizations to help in enhancing internal and external validity.

Describe your participants and how you will recruit them. Clearly identify your solicitation method. You must include specific information applicable to the study, such as but not limited to, the organization's name; mass email alias; data-gathering businesses to be utilized (free or paid); private citizen or government employee; and geographic area.

Since the researcher will conduct a qualitative content analysis to examine the phenomenon of decreased usage of nuclear energy, there are no human subjects involved in the study. The study does not contain participants because the researcher will focus on examine existing literature on this issue.

Number of participants: (list male and female participant numbers):

The researcher will not involve human subjects because it is a qualitative content analysis that focuses on existing literature on the research issue.

How will you obtain Informed Consent, how will the consent be documented and saved, for how long?

This is not applicable in this study because the researcher…
