Technology Is the Technical Means That People

Technology is the technical means that people use, to improve their surroundings. It is also knowledge of using tools and machines to do tasks efficiently. We use technology to control the world in which we live. Technology is people using knowledge, tools and systems to make their lives easier and better. As the old saying, "Necessity is the mother of all inventions."

People use technology to improve their ability to do work. Through technology, people can do things twice as fast and twice more efficient than people did a century ago. Technology helps people to cope with our ever-growing population, so that everyone may have enough food to feed him or herself and satisfy there needs. Technology gives us larger possibilities by giving us ideas that we haven't thought about in the past. It further enhances our perspective in the things we do and makes simpler solutions in the problems we face everyday. It also gives us easier accessibility and mobility. Technology makes production move faster.

But not everything that technology has to offer is good. For every advantage that technology gives us, it also comes with subsequent disadvantages. Some of them are the complexities of society. Not everyone can cope with the advancements of technology as a result these people can get left behind. Everything becomes more complicated and what is expected of us also grows. Life was simpler in the old days but due to technology everything has become more complex. Another is the increase of indolence in our society. Since everything has become more accessible and more convenient people tend to log off and become lazy. With better solutions and easier workload, comes the over-dependence of people to technology. They tend not to think for themselves anymore and let technology take over their lives. This is bad, for it make us the slaves of technology instead of us controlling them, they are the ones that control us.

Some technology advances that we have in our society are the improvements in medicine, the creation of the motorized vehicle, ways for students to do their work and farming. This technology not only gives positive but also negative effects to society. Like in the development of medical technology, people can now have a better quality of life. Furthermore, many lives, which normally would not survive without the advance in medical treatment, can now be artificially prolonged. On the other hand, it is the same points that cause them to be harmful. Because through this advance medical technologies people sustain one's lives just because the technology is available, this is intolerance under certain circumstances. It is the individual patient who must make a decision about whether to keep himself alive. Any patient's decision should be respected, not based on the fact of all available technologies.

Another technology advances is the creation of the motorized vehicle, which helps us to go from one place to another. Although there are barrels, slow drivers and exits we have to dodge, motorized vehicles allow us to travel anywhere faster than we could in the past. Automobile can have a negative "domino chain effect" on society. Automobiles are a good example of how technology can backfire on this world. Automobile exhausts are polluting the atmosphere so much that the next big technological advancement should be to find a way to heal the environment. However, healing the environment sounds like a great plan except the demand for the use of automobiles, planes and trains kept rising. As the demand rises, there will be a need to find enough oil and petroleum to run these modes of transportation. Soon, there will not be enough of these resources left and there will be severe counter-effects on society if all of these modes of transportation are taken away. Humans take for granted these modes of transportation. Humans often live miles away from their place of business. No transportation means there is no way to get to work unless you switch to a job within walking range of your house. No transportation means no money and eventually no food.

Farming has changed drastically. Before the agriculture revolution, men had to plow the fields using donkeys and walking many miles a day. Now, tractors and combines allow farmer to spend less time in the fields because they can ride in the cab and get the work done in less time. Farmers can work on more fields, which in effect create more crops and collect money for their family. But as a result even if this technology gives good effect, it makes human lazy. Human are losing their sense of common purpose. They rely on this technology too much.
