Surgical Assisting
The surgical assistant is an integral member of the health care surgical team. Assisting is in fact a growing profession, one that I am enthusiast about participating in. The surgical assistant is responsible for possessing the knowledge and skills to capably and efficiently assist the surgeon and other team members to assure the best possible outcome for a patient. To do this a surgical assistant has to have advanced knowledge of the techniques necessary to function effectively in a surgical setting. It is my desire to gain this knowledge through your program.
The health of the patient depends in part on the surgical assistant's ability to function effectively and with a high degree of competency. To accomplish this successfully a surgical assistant must be possessed of certain key personality traits. Among the traits of a competent surgical assistant are the ability to maintain a professional demeanor, friendly and team oriented attitude, warm and compatible personality and ability to communicate within a team oriented setting. I have all of these traits and more.
I believe that the surgical assistant is presented with the unique opportunity to expand their knowledge in the surgical environment by regularly conversing with qualified surgeons and health care provider's about among other things patient anatomy and health care ideas in a stimulating environment. My goal includes not only acquisition of a competent level of surgical assistant proficiency but also achieving the ability to provide a high level of care and enthusiastic attitude to help alleviate tension and promote a calm and collaborative surgical environment.
Surgical assistants can serve many purposes including reduction of surgical operating times, lessening the workload of nursing staff and provide professional contact for all members of the team. If the prognosis of the patient is not good the surgical assistant can help work to deflect tension in the operating room and promote a calm and productive environment. I personally have a unique ability to remain calm and diffuse tension in the most climactic of circumstances, thus feel I am well suited for this role.
