Coming to a truly holistic understanding of spiritual formation would be essential to anyone titled "Director of Spiritual Formation;" not simply being aware of but truly encouraging the development of different paths and approaches to spiritual formation would be an essential part of the job description, and this will require a great deal of subsuming the ego and personal feelings. I would make a constant and ongoing attempt to see things from the church members' perspectives, tailoring my advice and guidance to allow their development to continue along the lines of their own preferences and beliefs, rather than trying to dictate my own.
