Select one article from a peer-reviewed nursing journal published within the last three years -- or a germinal article which may contain an earlier publication date -- and provide the citation in APA format.

Answer the following questions using your selected research article:
1. Is this qualitative or quantitative? What is the study design? What criteria did you use to determine the study design?
This is a quantitative study. It is survey; a correlational descriptive design. Descriptive since surveys were used to analyze the particular population. The objective (and instrument of the study) was the Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index
That was administered to the nurses in order to determine what domains of the work environment were related to turnover intention. Namely to see whether there was a correlation between one and the other.
2. How did you confirm that the journal you selected was peer-reviewed or germinal?
All authors had PhDs, were registered, or possessed Masters. Their references are credible. The publisher too was credible: Wolters Kluwer Health | Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. These publishers have published other peer-reviewed journals. The information for authors tells me that it is peer-reviewed.
3. Does this research article generate support for evidence-based practice? If not, state why it does not.
The study generates support. It provides a concise though relevant review to subject and applies a credible tool - Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index
(PES-NWI)- for implementing the survey. Not only has this tool been used with Magnet hospitals in the past but it is also well-respected.
The objective was clearly and exactly defined: to assess which specifics cause turnover amongst Gen Y nurses. A large enough population was used - 150 graduating
Nurses from 33 colleges and universities, although this would have benefited from more.
The main problems, as I see it, is that only one location (Ontario) was selected. To best answer the question, one needs as diverse as sample as possible extracted from many different locations and, possibly, from different countries too. A longitudinal and cross-sectional analysis may have been better for this study. The best outcome that this study can propose is attitude of Gen Y nurses in Ontario to their job -- and this doesn't answer the generic question of Gen Y. nurses in general.
