In fact:
In the months following the accident, although questions were raised about possible adverse effects from radiation on human, animal, and plant life in the TMI area, none could be directly correlated to the accident. Thousands of environmental samples of air, water, milk, vegetation, soil, and foodstuffs were collected by various groups monitoring the area. Very low levels of radionuclides could be attributed to releases from the accident. However, comprehensive investigations and assessments by several well-respected organizations have concluded that in spite of serious damage to the reactor, most of the radiation was contained and that the actual release had negligible effects on the physical health of individuals or the environment. (United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission).
While the Three Mile Island incident did not cause the same type of damage as Chernobyl and the destruction from Chernobyl was less than people initially believed it would be, it is clear that the use of nuclear power can have potentially disastrous consequences. However, the responsible use of nuclear power can have tremendous benefits as well. First, the fuel for nuclear power plants is relatively inexpensive, so that nuclear energy can be provided inexpensively for large groups of people. In addition, when compared to many other means of energy production, nuclear power is low on pollutants; it produces no air pollution. Furthermore, "the
Finally, nuclear plants do not emit dangerous amounts of radiation. In fact, when one compares the total amount of pollution from nuclear power plants and traditional hydrocarbon power plants, it quickly becomes apparent that nuclear power plants have contributed less pollution to the environment than fossil fuel plants.
Obviously, it is impossible to characterize nuclear technology as entirely benign. Not only has nuclear technology been used against people in wars, causing tremendous death and destruction, but its use to provide electric energy has also proven dangerous. However, these accidents have resulted from a breakdown in protocol, including operator irresponsibility. When used in a responsible and safe manner, nuclear power plants are relatively safe, and contribute less harm to the environment than other methods of electric energy production. Therefore, it is also unfair to characterize nuclear technology as something inherently malignant. Instead, like most scientific advances, the use of nuclear energy should be classified according to its use, rather than for any of its inherent characteristics.

Postmodernism Post Modernism and Individualism and Responsibility Introduction and Postmodern Definition Understanding the postmodern paradigm is a little like looking in to a bowl of spaghetti, and without using any utensils, trying to determine how many individual pieces of spaghetti are present, and what is their average length. The postmodern thought process which now dominates our culture is inter-twining, complex philosophy which is the combination of failed modern thought, along with the new
Therapeutic Cloning Recent years have seen intense debate on the ethicality of human cloning and therapeutic cloning. While the former involves reproduction of a new human (clone to the adult from whom the DNA was taken), therapeutic cloning has a very different goal. Having said that, therapeutic cloning, too, has been under the spotlight. This paper's purpose is to focus on therapeutic cloning alone and explore the possible pros and cons
The 1980s (the period when Ronald Reagan was the U.S. President) witnessed a series of government measures targeting environmental regulations. This resulted in public outrage against the anti-environmental policies of the government leading to a renewed interest in nature clubs and groups and the formation of radical groups who led strong movements to protect the environment. Ian Wimut and Keith Campbell could effectively clone two sheeps named Megan and Morag in July 1995 from the differentiated embryo cells. (History of Cloning) Dolly originated on July 5, 1996 as the first organism ever to be cloned from adult cells. Following the announcements for creation of Dolly by Ian Wilmut, an extensive debate on human cloning ethics emerged and that led President Clinton to propose for a five-year
Indeed, arguably he is playing a little loose with the terms here, for persuasion, while it may be based on logic, is rarely simply logic. Rather it is logic combined with at least a coating of emotion. In the following passage toward the end of his speech Obama uses language that I believe to be persuasive in a way in which Aristotle would approve, for Obama is using facts to
Negative Argument for Debate Negative Argument Government should NOT turn away from fossil fuels Installing solar collectors on rooftops and insulating homes in America will not provide citizens and businesses with the energy needed to keep American strong. It is paramount that the U.S. continues to use fossil fuels. It's a no-brainer, friends: if we shut down fossil fuel electrical generating plants, we shut down American industry; we also shut down computers, schools,
