¶ … satire of the War on Terrorism being fought by American.

The man kneeled to the Giver. He had been trained to be the one who would accomplish greatness for the Giver. "I am ready," he whispered, "to finish what the Giver had started."

The Giver sat in the shadows wrapped in his cloak. He was seen by few and yet, commanded thousands in a reign of terror.

"There can be no mistake. The unclean must be punished. We have been to long in the darkness and must now arise and take what is rightfully ours. You are blessed to be the one who makes amends."

His words sounded as a scratch on the surface of a wooden board. The ears strained to make out the words and accepted them with murmurs of praise for the Giver.

Silently the 'Blessed One' arose and backed out of the room. His face hidden in a shroud of cloth. As the Giver sat silently his messengers roamed the world. They began to gather for the Final Act. The Act for which they had been born. Like ghosts they began to make the motions, which would seal the death for thousands and make them in the eyes of their comrades, 'martyrs' for a higher cause.

The world remained blessedly ignorant save for the few who knew and yet, claimed ignorance. They were the Watchers. They would believe nothing. They followed the steps of the men trained for the Giver and still remained silent. Words began to come in to them of a 'event that would shock millions.' No action was taken. It was as if the Watchers dared the Giver to commit such an atrocity. He had been one of them before his defection. A Watcher who learnt too well. The secret world could not be entered. It had players, who remained hidden, unknown by anyone and whose identity was dubious.

The world went on with its life. There was little to prepare anyone for what would come and yet, if anyone had bothered to look deeper than the surface it was clear for all to see. The Giver had been a usurper who challenged the authority of the sovereign of the Land of Nothing. It was a place, which had been in turmoil for decades and still ignored. Raiders had come and gone scavenging an already empty land. The Watchers had been one of the invaders leaving the land naked once they left. Turmoil and blood marked the Land of Nothing and soon the Giver struck taking what remained of the bare landscape. Blood, violence and silent terror became symbolic of the land, which soon became the throne of the Giver. He was omnipotent and recruited his regime from lands far away. The Watchers went where they profited and the Land of Nothing was no longer a profitable place. It was left alone. The silence only intensified as the Devotees gathered.

The division of the world took place and no one knew. The Devotees pursued the mandates of the Giver who would bring them deliverance. The Watchers remained untouched.

Then it was time for the Final Act and still the Watchers stood apart. Suddenly the Land of Blessings, which belonged to the Watchers, became a landscape of terror. The 'Blessed One' had freed the Giver. He had achieved Eternal Peace. The blood that had so long marked the Land of Nothing was now a part of the world to share. The 'Unclean' had been made to pay the price of their power. The 'Unclean' no longer had the right to Lord over their peace. Their land was in turmoil and the price had been paid.

The Watchers moved. They finally began to come alive under the intense pain that was pushed towards them. The Devotees screamed deliverance as the passion of relief caught them and they finally saw the pain move away from them.

The Watchers could no longer ignore the pain. It was too close. It had too many memories. The Giver finally showed his face to the world as he accepted the acclaim he believed he deserved. Then shook the foundations of the past. The Land of Nothing was again ravaged. The Devotees were pressurized into betraying their own. Some turned traitors others went to their graves as the Watchers demanded atonement.

The Terror continued. The Giver lost his throne, as the usurper became the usurped. The Watchers thrived in midst off the Terror and they soon realized that the manner in which the Giver had been born could never be repeated. The silence had to be fought and so they continued the ravage. What had started as a small force of retaliation began to grow bigger as the Watchers took their position. The world of the Giver was no more but the Watchers were not satisfied. They looked for more. They could not allow power to others who would then walk a line that did not meet their world. The World stood apart accepting the Watchers right. The terrorized became the terrors.

There were murmurs of discontent. Values were questioned. Doubts formed in the minds of millions but as with the Giver silence reigned supreme. The Watcher's Lord claimed omnipotence. He claimed the Divine right to avenge his Land. Like the Land of Nothing others would have to be stopped before they ravaged the Blessed. The Lands that Threatened the Blessed were pointed out and the forces gathered. The Watchers stepped asides as the messengers claimed right and followed the rule laid down by the Watchers.
