Abstract

In order for a business to run a successful model, there needs to be a balance in serving the needs of the organization, while maintaining and moral and ethical ground. Organizational issues arise from not being able to balance the needs of an organization with the needs of its employees. Being able to meticulously handle this situation allows for a business to continue existing.

¶ … Responsibility Project

The film chosen as an appropriate representation of organizational issues is Women in the World: Erin Ganju (2012). This film deals with the idea of creating a business based on a non-profit model. Numerous issues were addressed and mentioned in this film. Most importantly, the concept behind the establishment of the business itself brings attention to the widely needed perspective of more open-minded and caring individuals. It is this same principle that allowed Erin Ganju to begin her business, and it is this same concept that has allowed her to be successful in it. The film addressed the organizational issues of a passionate leader. In order for an organization to be effective in all formats, the people who stand at the top, that is, the individuals in charge of management need to be approachable so that employees and other partners are able to feel more comfortable when addressing any potential problem (Palmer & Zakhem, 2012). The social issues that make up the mission statement of this organization also influence the way that the organization is run. Because the nature of this non-profit agency is in fact taking on a global perspective, many more problems are dealt with. In order to be able to continue to run an organization, it is imperative to recognize that being able to successfully guide an industry is dependent on the employees' ability to appreciate the diversity -- something that this film addresses vastly.

The film that was chosen focuses on issues that are swayed greatly by social pressures. Due to the nature of the organization, Erin Ganju needs to be able to relate to others from a variety of backgrounds. She is constantly traveling and serving the needs of communities that may not have had access to the education that she is providing them with, if it were not for her (Responsibility Project, 2012). The organizational ethics get significantly influenced by external pressures as every culture maintains their own customs and their own views on issues. These concerns may need to be addressed differently according to the location that the organization is working at. What may be ethical to one culture may be completely disrespectful in another (Johnson, 2012). These social pressures may be essential to follow in one country, while it may not be much of a concern in another. Being able to distinguish the difference between those is in itself following the great ethical principles. Upon viewing the video, it can be clearly seen that in order to continue influencing the public despite social pressures, moral and ethical implications needs to be considered.

As previously stated, the various organizational concerns addressed in the film are pertinent to the successful directing of Erin Ganju's non-profit organization. To begin with, ethically, a leader should be approachable. They should be just as passionate about their own business model as they expect those that work for them to be (Palmer & Zakhem, 2012). In the film, the passion that Ganju feels for her work, for the people she works with, and for the mission of her organization is quite apparent. This in itself sets up a great environment for others to be a part of. A leader guides those that are willing to learn and serves as a role model when making pertinent conclusions. Personal decisions that get made in regards to the organization need to consider the involvement of all parties and therefore bring order to the purpose of the business (Johnson, 2012). This can be examined in the selected film and due to Ganju's ability to make people feel comfortable, it is obvious that those individuals that are members of her team are made to feel like their voice actually matters and are made to believe that it makes a difference to speak up. Members need to feel that they are being included in the organization's personal decisions. This is an essential characteristic and an ethical principle that must be followed in order to bring more focus to the actual issues that the organization is attempting to solve.
