The Amiens Cathedral, on the other hand, was constructed over a much longer period of time. From beginning to end the Amiens Cathedral's construction took 190 years. As a result of this fact, there is little likelihood that the original plans used to begin the building still existed by the time the building was completed and there is no chance that the individuals responsible for supervising the construction in the beginning were still on hand at its completion. The Salisbury Cathedral tends to be the exception as most of the European Cathedrals demonstrate a severe lack of uniformity in style. The size of these structures and the inherent costs involved in the construction made the process of building a new cathedral a lengthy process, thus, most of the cathedrals in Europe have tended to display a multiplicity of styles. These style differences provide a good history of how architecture changed over the years but also resulted in the construction of cathedrals that possessed symmetry but not uniformity in style.
