Globalization has become such an important world in defining the way in which economies and countries develop that an actual definition of the term itself is no longer sought. It represents nowadays a terminology that entangles the entire array of economic, political, social, and cultural elements of life at the global level. However, the critics of the globalization process tend to view these developments as worsening the condition of the human being through the high level of dependency on economic revenues, on the strong inter-connectivity between countries, societies, and individuals that eventually leads to diluting the actual nature of the individual as a particular human being, with rights and obligations, with a life following the social contract norms of the 18th century. Perhaps one of the most spread discussion on the actual effects of globalization revolves around the negative impact this phenomenon has on the poor people who, as a result of the indirect effects of the activities that define globalization, become even poorer and the gap between the rich and the poor is constantly expanding.
The issue of modern slavery and the discussions it entangles leads to the point of considering that slavery, as Kevin Bales pointed out in "Disposable people" is by no means an issue of the past and rather it represents the realities of the present in many countries around the world. Bales underlines the fact that precisely this tendency to empower globalization through the actions that define it is what creates the new slaves that most often are reduced to less than their quality of human beings. An analysis of modern slavery represents, in a way, an overview of the negative aspects of globalization from an interdisciplinary point-of-view.
