I would address this opportunity by referring him to a Christian psychologist (not a Pastoral Counselor) and following up with the colleague about his progress. After his suicidal thoughts and self-harm patterns have become more manageable I would see him again if requested.

I would address such an admission by asking about my client's prayer life, exploring the reasons why they find their behavior troubling, and talking about reasons why it may be impacting their spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. We would then develop together a plan to address this behavior that included reformulating thought patterns around sex and strengthening the client's inherent power to control their own behavior.

My faith dictates a belief that all people should be cared for according to their absolute worth as children of God. My role as a Christian counseling professional is to facilitate the operation of grace, responsibility, and forgiveness in people's lives.

15) Since I am counseling the couple together and the wife is also my client, I am compelled to let her know that she may have been exposed to HIV. This would be done in the context of a session; if the husband insisted on "confidentiality" to protect his actions, I would have to inform the wife separately. If this caused the couple to stop seeking my counsel as a Christian helper, I would accept that outcome in order to protect the wife's health.

16) If I was uncertain about the course of action, I would devote serious time to the issue in prayer and wait for the movement of the Spirit to guide my actions. However, since it is a time-sensitive issue, I would also ask another trusted Pastoral Counselor (e.g. my own) or Christian psychologist what the most ethical course of action was.
