Ethical Decision Making Models
The case scenario given involves an attending physician who is caught up in a situation where two parents make conflicting decisions about their daughter and the doctor has the role of not only listening to the directions from the parents, but also saving the life of the child. The dilemma is that in the process of saving the lives of the child, she cannot ignore the advice that is given by the parents of the child since he needs their consent and direction to commence treatment.
The ethical dilemma here is that the physician has the moral obligation to listen to the parents for direction on what to do and doing otherwise could lead to legal prosecution, and yet the parents give mixed advice and the physician has to now make a decision on what to follow. Despite the fact that the mother is not the biological mother, she has the primary custody and has the legal say over the child, and on the other hand, the biological father has the right to recommend treatment for the daughter despite not having the legal custody. The mother, who has the legal custody, gives religious reasons for rejecting any form of treatment for the daughter and yet the physician must determine the way forward, hence the need to use the rational decision making model (Cathy F., 2012).
The rational decision making model is one of the most widely used and accepted models used especially in times when the situation raises ethical dilemma. The decision making model seeks to determine the most morally upright thing to do in a situation that has raised some form of dilemma. It involves four steps sequence which involves;

Problem-solving and Decision-Making in Nursing and Explain How Clinical Judgments Are Outcomes of Critical Thinking in Nursing The American Philosophical Association (APA) has "defined critical thinking as purposeful, self-regulatory judgment that uses cognitive tools such as interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, and explanation of the evidential, conceptual, methodological, criteriological, or contextual considerations on which judgment is based" (Benner 1). In a nursing-specific context, nurses must be engaging their critical faculties at
Nursing Process Clinical Decision Making Definition of Clinical Decision Making Clinical decision-making is defined in the work of Higuchi and Donald (2002) entitled "Thinking Processes Used by Nurses in Clinical Decision Making" to be "a problem-solving activity that focuses on defining patient problems and selecting appropriate treatment interventions." (p.145) Clinical decision marking is stated to be that which "forms the basis of expert clinical practice." (Higuchi and Donald, 2002, p.145) The nurse
A nurse must weigh these variables, physical, mental, and spiritual, when advising a course of treatment and deciding how to approach a patient or patient's family. An adolescent who is an injured athlete envisioning a lucrative college scholarship might demand and be able to physically and mentally withstand a more aggressive form of treatment, due to psychological and developmental and goal-related visions (spiritual) factors than might a less motivated elderly
Ethics, Values and Decision-Making in Nursing Practice RIGHT FROM WRONG A nurse's primary tasks are monitoring the patient's vital signs, administering medications, and helping doctors treat and perform procedures (Williams, 2012). Oftentimes and in many cases, these technical skills must be guided by certain and pertinent moral and ethical principles. This ethical and moral component of her overall responsibility is so important and critical that a code of ethics was created by
As in any merger, the organization would have to deal with human resource issues (because the verification process was double-performed, one of the two teams needs to be reapplied within the organization), financial issues, etc. The third option would be to create a sole compartment to deal with the verification process, a compartment that would employ human resource from both the ECFMG and the EICS. This compartment would deal only

The analysis of the dilemma will be done using Catalano’s (2009) ethical decision making algorithm for nurses. Various potential solutions to the dilemma will be discussed along with an examination of both the positive and negative consequences of the decision.
