The course is meant for individuals who are likely to enter into the industry for production of motion pictures as the education will give them a better understanding of the mission of their industry. Earlier this was done through lectures and a laboratory session where the students saw sections of motion pictures. These sessions were offered at places where the students will be working later, but this was becoming difficult as the number of students at each point was becoming very low. So, it was decided to send the course over a standard education package so that the students could take advantage of it wherever they were, and at their conveniences.
In addition to films that were produced in United States as also the German Golden Age of cinema, there was coverage in the course of movies made in Australian, British, East European, French, Italian, Japanese, Soviet and Swedish areas along with animated films. To be totally successful, the classes had to be supported with clips of cinema, photographs and different visual aids. These could be done only with media which provided visual facilities. There are also problems regarding questions of technicalities and copyright which make these demonstrations more difficult. Thus a method had to be accepted that would solve all these problems. The platform adopted for use here was the Virtual Indiana Classroom distance education network. This was a radical innovation when it was introduced in 1995 and the entire scheme was presented by the Dean of the School of Continuing Studies to the Indiana University faculty at their annual meeting. This started off with the opportunity to teach students on all the campuses of Indiana University through creativity and excellence. This has also raised many questions about learning, logistics and budgets. (General Background of Project) This is now in the form of software that is available for further development and that is the reason why it is proposed to use this software. In the initial stages, experimentation will cost money even for other purposes and the students will have to get accustomed to learning through the Internet.
