The NYC police department provides a comprehensive website that details their entire hiring process. The first step is the applicant processing division. If the candidate fills out the application with this department this there will be a medical exam and a character prescreening. If the candidate passes these hurdles then there will be a more comprehensive character investigation performed in which the department will investigate each person's character. After this step the candidates must also perform a written and verbal psychological exam to ensure they meet psychological standards. If the candidate passes these requirements then there will be a series of interviews in which a host of additional requirements will also be considered.
