Personal Statement Don't Be Discouraged, Term Paper

Personal Statement

Don't be discouraged," my academic advisor told me with a grin. "You can do it, I know you can." Her inspiring words resonated with me throughout the rest of the day, and I resolved to knock on your doors once again. I recently commenced studies at the dental school in which I am currently enrolled, and although I am getting a lot out of the program of study, I still regret that I did not make the cut for the school of my first choice. My academic advisor, although sorry to see me leave, had always known that my core ambition was to study with the esteemed faculty at your academy. Throughout my undergraduate career, I set my mind on attending my dream school and my dream has never died. Because I feel that I will make an excellent addition to your student body, because I know I will fit in well with my fellow students, and because I am determined and dedicated, I am applying for a transfer.

My intended area of specialization is cosmetic dentistry, as I would love more than anything to help people improve their smiles. Throughout my academic career so far, I have taken every advantage to intern with and volunteer at various dental offices to get an idea of all aspects of the profession, from the everyday running of the office to crowns and bridges. Shadowing other dentists has only inspired me to pursue this line of work even more, and I want to be able to deliver the best services possible. I have researched many dental academies and feel drawn to this one more than any other because of the opportunity to work in a state-of -- the art facility, using cutting edge technology and receiving guidance from the best educators in the field.

I will participate fully in the program, contributing to research, volunteering whenever possible, and being open to new techniques of the trade. Furthermore, your school provides one of the most balanced dental curricula that I have run across, for I thrive in programs that combine hard academics with hands on clinical experience. I will make an excellent addition to your current class of graduates and will represent your institution with aplomb after I graduate. Thank you for your consideration.
