Personal Learning Theory. The Author Term Paper

Many educational projects are experiential, but don't refer to themselves as such (e.g., excursions, physical education, manual arts, drama, art, and so on)." The value of experiential education is instrumental to my learning theory. I remember the first time I assisted in a classroom and saw how valuable it is when utilized correctly.

I was helping with a math lesson in a first grade classroom. The teacher had drawn an equation the board of 2 plus 3 equals 5. She had the students first discuss the equation and talk about things that could be added. The list was endless and fun and included pet dogs, cats, little sisters and brothers. It had the students laughing and paying close attention. The next step was to write the equation on the board. She had them first draw it in desk top sand boxes then write it on the paper. The final element was using glue for art class. They were to glue three beans, macaronis or pipe cleaners in a group and then two in another group and then five in a third group with a marking indicating which direction the addition equation went. This opened the door to teaching subtraction by explaining the reversing of the bean equation would also work if it was subtraction.

I knew then how important experiential education was as I realized the children who had learning disabilities...

In addition the modeling of organized behavior on my part will help the students figure out how to become more organized and efficient students. As I move into my teaching career I will continue to evaluate and update my learning theory as I develop professionally.

There are advantages and disadvantages to the theory of constructivism. On the positive side, it means that children are ferocious learners because they have the innate neural tools in place to properly absorb and classify information. Piaget would argue that children need only be given the stimuli -- environment, information or other factors -- at the appropriate time when a child's brain is ready to absorb information. Piaget suggested that learning
