¶ … life are the most valuable.
Life is really made up of all the little events and simple, unassuming pieces of happiness. The two extremes, of great sorrow and great happiness only come rarely. For this reason, it is appropriate to believe that these simple events mean the most in life. Moreover, it is the logical progression of these simple events that result in either great happiness or great sorrow, depending upon the nature of the simple events. This can be gauged from the lives of many successful people where small bits and pieces of success aggregate into one big success one day which makes them noticeable.
In my opinion, it is really the small things that matter because life is largely made up of them rather than the big, glorified events. I have realized this from my own experiences at high school where I wanted to be the most popular person, simply because I had never been such before. While I was busy in developing human networks, priming my appearance and trying all other popularity tactics, I was experiencing little happiness and successes with other things, which were not contributing towards my goal in any way but made me very content with myself. For instance, one of my neighbors fell ill. Being an old man, he could not get any housework done. So one day I decided to skip the fundraiser at school, and go help him instead. Though I missed the fundraiser, which could have added to my popularity ratings, I was content in helping the old man instead.
Finally in the senior year at school, I was voted the "Most Popular" person.
To this day, though I cherish the ultimate success of my goal, I still remember with contentment the little things that I did or that were done for me. Hence I feel its true that though big things matter a lot, the simple things have a happiness and contentment attached to them which is all their own.

The study will also be important to those in the future, because scientists have not yet found ways to cure these chronic illnesses or correct some of these problems that are seen today, and therefore it stands to reason that there will be more people in the future who will have to face the same problems as those with chronic illnesses and traumatic injuries today.
