Peaceful Evacuation Building A Multi Project Battalion By Leading Upward Term Paper

Business - Case Studies There are various leadership styles with the most prominent ones being the directive, the consultative, the participative, and the delegative. This study analyzes the form of leadership styles employed by Lieutenant Colonel Yaron and Lieutenant Colonel Daniel. Their story is presented in the case study titled "A Peaceful Evacuation: Building a Multi-Project Battalion by Leading Upward," it is important to first define the four prominent leadership styles. With the directive leadership style, an individual is characterized by having firm knowledge and views on the way things are supposed to be done. In fact, such leaders provide minimum space for their subordinates to demonstrate independence where they strictly adhere to the procedures and methods that the leader has already laid down. Such leaders lead by their own opinions as opposed to inviting the contribution of other parties, especially the subordinate partners (Laufer, 2012).

The delegative leader mainly delegates the various roles and responsibilities to the other team members. Such leaders have deep value for group input and opinions. However, although the discussion process is democratic in nature, the leaders make the final decision, which involves deciding on which of the varying proposals should be implemented. The effectiveness of such a leadership style is highly dependent on the leader's ability to weight the different ideas and identify the most effective one (Laufer, 2012).
Leadership style that Lieutenant Colonel Daniel exhibited

Of the four leadership styles, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel mainly exhibited the participative leadership style as he contributed extensively in the difficult military operation. On his appointment, Colonel Daniel first mobilized his team to research on historical cases that could serve as examples of the current situation. Colonel Daniel later stated that his team had failed to find a valid historical case. He proceeded to gather a team of IDF psychologists after a day of thinking together. All would provide their input in finding amicable solutions. Colonel Daniel encouraged the various psychologists in his team to contribute their ideas in order to pool the ideas of the various team members. In each instance, the results of the IDF's psychologists are portrayed as a concerted team effort as opposed to the efforts of one leader (Laufer, 2012).
