In every organization there is a code of ethics that is to be followed by the employees so as to ensure co-existence and smooth running of the organizations activities. Organizational behavior refers to the examination of individual actions in relation to the workplace setting comprising of the fields of management, communication, psychology and sociology. Within any social setting interactions, varied factors come up that bring about a lot of controversy over what is the standard code of ethics for organizations. In the day-to-day operations of organizations, the biggest challenge is to choose between options that must be weighed as ethical or unethical in the event of achieving fairness and social harmony that is deciding what is right or wrong in the process of carrying out a given activity. It involves proper relations and responsibilities to each other and personally. Ethical issues are a major concern for organizations because the main goal is profit making. Ethical issues in organization vary from culture, politics, socio-economic and religious concerns. Currently, every organization is faced with the challenge of environmental protection in its activities. The environment is an important aspect of our world that activists are prioritizing Bowie, 2011.
Any organization following a given code of behavior implies that the revenues received would be high as the consumers would have a positive attitude towards the organizations products hence demand would increase. The organization would be recognized meaning that people are more aware of the business. The creditors who support the ethical action by the organization would be willing to invest in the business adding to the sources of finance and finally the employees working in the organization would be self-motivated. The recruitment capacity of the organization would also stand a better chance.
Individual factors impacting on ethical behavior include personal values, family and peer influences, the stages of moral development and day-to-day life experiences. In moral development individual develop from acting without being responsible until the age of reason following proper attitudes and behaviors in the society. Personal values influence an individual in that he/she has self-confidence as opposed to those who believe that the fate of others influence his/her life. Family influence affects ethical standards in that an individual will follow suit of what is seen as right when he/she was growing up. Children would adopt high ethical standards if they see their family adhere here the same and will continue so in organizational structure. To achieve organizational goal we should also be in good terms with our colleagues so as to live in a harmonious atmosphere.
