The Odyssey and Everyman: comparative literary analysis

Odyssey and Everyman.

People living in contemporary Georgia have to deal with a series of difficulties in their struggle to comply with some of the most respected values in society, as most of them want to reach a certain phase in their lives where they can consider themselves truly satisfied with who they are. One can take on legends such as "The Odyssey" and "Everyman" with the purpose of understanding what needs to be done in order for people to have success in their endeavor. Odysseus and Everyman have both gone through a lot of suffering and they had to accept their flaws with the purpose of reaching the final stage in their journey.

It is particularly challenging for people in Georgia to stay away from some of the main attractions in the area, especially considering that one can easily get himself or herself lost in trying to discover their true identity concomitantly with attempting to integrate in the state and to appreciate everything it has to offer. Odysseus had gone through a series of events on his way home and he was the only one to survive, in spite of the fact that his crew was much larger when it left Troy. It is primarily because of his strength of will and because of his devotement to his cause that Odysseus eventually arrives home, this practically being a reference in regard to how one has to be indifferent to material possessions in order for the respective person to be able to accomplish his or her goals.

With present-day Georgia being a land where people can benefit from a series of privileges, it is actually particularly hard for an individual to remain focused on his or her initial goals, as he or she can be easily influenced in abandoning his or her values with the purpose of embracing false ones. Although Odysseus is not necessarily an example worthy of being followed when trying to make it in society, his experiences and his behavior are very important in motivating people in Georgia today. Odysseus virtually influences people to fight fire with fire, similar to how he responded to the wild boar's attack. Instead of accepting defeat when confronted by the animal, Odysseus demonstrated that he could direct his suffering at the animal, as he chose to invest all of his strength into capturing the beast.

The protagonist in Everyman is initially confused in regard to his situation and concerning what he has to do in order to spend more time on earth. As he tries to get help from his acquaintances, he realizes that his past experiences did not actually earn him the right to receive assistance from the ones he considers close to him. Everyman initially underestimates the importance of his journey and chooses the wrong individuals to join him in undertaking it.
