¶ … Admissions Department:
I am writing to express my interest in applying to your nursing department in pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing. I have chosen nursing as a career after a long and thoughtful process, including observation at local hospitals and clinics, and speaking with others in the nursing profession. I believe that nursing is one of the noblest professions a person can enter, as nurses provide the ultimate in care and hope for ailing patients and their families. I also believe that there will continue to be a shortage of nursing jobs in the country as "baby boomers" grow older, and I believe that will make nursing a strong, secure, and well-paying profession that can sustain the long career that I anticipate.
I would like to pursue a baccalaureate in nursing because I believe this is the wave of the future for nursing preparation. In addition, I would like to someday pursue a Master's in nursing, and a baccalaureate would be necessary to achieve that goal. I also am not a fan of the two-year certificate programs offered by many junior colleges and other schools; I believe a baccalaureate is necessary for the best training and preparedness in this vital field.
I believe that I am a caring and empathetic person who can identify with the needs of others and help them when they need help, which is one of the reasons I am interested in the nursing field. I also am interested in research and development of new understanding of diseases and treatments. I am hoping that I could work in an area where I can work with patients and in clinical trials or other situations where I can learn more about these activities, as well, and that my interests and natural curiosity would aid me in these areas. I am also organized and efficient, qualities that I think are important for a good nurse.
