A steady disco beat and groove capture the listening audience, as if to keep the heart and mind resonating as with a mantra. "I Will Survive" actually does have a discernible effect on listeners, for it is impossible to listen to the song and not feel better afterwards. This is why when the song is sampled, it evokes feelings of joy. The song is about not relying on other people to rescue us, or about depending on the outside world for approval. Instead, the song encourages self-reliance and personal power.
