Mrs. Rodstrom's List Mrs. Rodstrom Research Proposal

Instantly, Mrs. Rodstrom recognized his smile. "Well, I dare say, it is!"

Mark put down the paper suddenly. "If he's in the store we need to find him, now! Come on, Virginia!"

"Mark, what is this?" Mrs. Rodstrom asked as she followed him out of the room, twisting her ankle on her heel. But before Mark could answer, the two policemen barged into view.

"Virginia Rodstrom?" one of them shouted.

"Yes -- what is all this fuss? Why is everyone so worked up?"

"Mrs. Rodstrom," the officer responded, "I need you to come with me for your safety. Mrs. Rodstrom, you're husband -- I'm sorry, but, well, he's dead."

"Dead?" Gasped...

Rodstrom. "How -- "
"You need to come with us, Virginia," the other officer gently commanded, taking her elbow. "He's still on the loose."

"Who?"

"The man who stole from your husband's company ten years ago, before you met," Mark explained as Virginia was led out the door, "Collin White. Virginia, was there anything else on that list?'

"I just wrote it on the back of an old envelope -- "

"Addressed to you?"

"Yes."

"Your address. Virginia, he knew your name."

Mrs. Rodstrom had forgotten the list. This, she was sure, was an omen of the perfectly horrible day she was about to set out to have.
