Medical Admissions

Fortunately or not, health care is a business. Having owned and operated a successful business bolsters my interest in running a private practice in osteopathic medicine. Administrative and managerial decisions can be as much a party of the physician's day-to-day operations as patient care and I have demonstrated both interest in and aptitude for the business of health care. However, my interest in osteopathy stems not from my entrepreneurial talents alone but also in my passion for medicine that has been cultivated throughout my undergraduate career. In addition to completing a science-oriented pre-med program in college, I shadowed local doctors to learn about the rigors of their profession. Osteopathy interested me in particular, partly due to the influence of professors whose input steered me in that direction and partly because of the passion with which the physicians I shadowed worked. Similarly, I volunteered with local medical centers specializing in osteopathy.

One of the primary elements of osteopathy and which sets it apart from other medical specialties is its focus on acute care and emergency injury. My predilection for working under stress prepares me psychologically for the unique and demanding profession. The college professor who advised that my disposition and talents lend themselves to a career in osteopathy told me that osteopaths need to be creative as well as analytical: to assess situations and make decisions that synthesize years of prior knowledge and experience. I believe I possess the qualities that would prepare me for a successful and rewarding career as an osteopathic physician.
