Daniels College Because the Program

¶ … Daniels College because the program is a new field in my country. When I return upon completion, I will be among the first experts in this field. When looking at the sort of education I wanted to acquire, I knew that I needed something that would allow me to fill a unique niche.

In addition, the multidisciplinary approach that Daniels offers will give me the skills I need to build myself into a leadership position in the field. The opportunity to work in the field, with a commercial real estate developer, will allow me to apply what I've learned not only to my past experiences but to present ones as well. Additionally, it will give me the opportunity to see first-hand the industry practices in the U.S., knowledge I can bring home with me.

Essay 2: I will bring significant experience to the classroom, including the Master's degree I am about to complete at the University of Denver. One of my strongest assets is my experience in the construction industry. I have managed projects, from costs to planning to negotiating with vendors. This practical experience will lend valuable perspective to the classroom material. Moreover, I bring the perspective of a different culture, a different way of doing things, that will energize the classroom.

My educational background is also a strong asset to the program. As a mechanical engineer, I have the base training in the engineering principles needed to design work flow for maximum efficiency. I am about to complete my Master's degree in Engineering Management - the experience I've gained at the graduate level in addition to my work as a project engineer will allow me to be a leader in the classroom.

Essay 3: The Daniels Compass is one of the reasons this program appeals to me. I am guided by a strong sense of ethics. During my work in Riyadh as a project engineer, I was faced with a situation where I had to balance the need for worker safety against a project that due to rising costs was headed over budget. Legally, I was under little obligation to protect the safety of the workers, many of whom were migrants from other countries.

However, that was something I simply could not do. I wish to be a leader, and good leaders do not corrupt their values for a quick fix. This situation forced me to be more creative in order to keep the project within budget and I was able to achieve this by renegotiating terms with some of my company's key vendors.

Essay 4: I feel that I am an ideal candidate for admission into the Daniels College Master of Science program in Real Estate and Construction Management. I bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the program. I have built up a solid resume in Saudi Arabia, and saw my leadership skills rise to the fore. Since then, I knew I needed to upgrade my education and develop skills that our country lacks.
