It should be noted that (Mass Evacuation, 2006):
Designating an area for shelter is necessary if there is a significant disruption to transportation and going to other place could expose the people to more threats or risk.
Evacuation and designation of shelter is detrimental if:
Safety is at risk for continuing threat (such as further volcanic eruptions, aftermaths of earthquakes and/or tsunami, etc.)
Properties within the area are "classified as unsafe or unsanitary or both and there is a lack of suitable shelter or alternative accommodations
Public health is at risk, which is normally the result of long-term trouble to water supplies or sewerage systems
Unavailability or contamination of food and water supply
Evaluating the time needed for the people to evacuate and the time they will be spending in the evacuation areas
There are emergency calls which will give the evacuees very limited time to move out of the place. Like for example in fires, earthquakes or bomb threats. Such risks will require the people to move out the quickest way possible. This is the very reason why the area officials will need to have a very clear plan of action as to which exit areas should the people be using.
Meanwhile, the length of stay in the evacuation site will be dependent on how devastated to area is. If massive earthquakes, hurricanes, bombings or tsunami has happened, the evacuees will normally have to stay in designated shelters for the time being until the city or government officials has declared that they can finally go back to their respective places.
Proper information dissemination is very important during evacuation and sheltering...
How Medical Evacuation Evolved from Post Civil War to Present 1st Historical Interest Timeline: 1877 to 1910 Medical advances during this period were more in organization and technique and not in medical breakthroughs. Jonathan Letterman is credited with creating a highly organized system of ambulances and trained stretcher bearers that were designed to evacuate the wounded quickly. This was a great improvement from the previous methods. It was also during this period
Countermeasures and Neutralization of Weapons of Mass Destruction At this intricate turn of the 21st century, one of the most pertinent issues at hand is that of national and international security. Humanity has come a long way in augmenting the value of life through so many miraculous technologies, but unfortunately man has simultaneously developed certain instruments that are particularly questionable and hence a threat to the life we envision. Today the
Campus Security Measures The impact of mass shooting at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) on April 16, 2007 continues to be felt across the United States and internationally due to a massacre that killed 27 students and five faculty members. Following the weeks after the shooting, the university conducted several extensive reviews and analysis to better understand the attack and provide strategies to prevent future attacks in the
National Response Framework Incident Annexes Timely responses to natural and manmade disasters require the effective coordination of numerous federal, state and local resources. Indeed, effective responses can make the difference between life and death for countless citizens, and there is therefore a need for a framework to coordinate these disparate but valuable first responder resources. In this regard, the National Response Framework provides such a framework, but given the enormous
The physical passage from the entrance hub should consist of a single hallway, as narrow as safety limits will allow and without any branching, to ease the monitoring of movement. This hallway would connect the entrance hub to the main public area of the airport, where shopping and food service establishments would located. Again, this area should be modeled after many existing airports; a large and open area resembling a
