Unfortunately, the complex nature of sexual scripts also means that it is easy to misread people's signals from other cultures, or even people from our own culture who have been socialized differently. For example, a male taught to believe that he should be the instigator might think he is doing right to overpower a female who tries to put him off the act by saying she has a headache, when she really does not desire intercourse at all.
