¶ … management system (DBMS) is a program that provides the user with access to the data and also helps them in transforming their raw data into meaningful information. The database management system (DBMS) is therefore a collection of programs that helps in the management of data structure as well as in the control of access to the data that is stored in the database. The DBMS systems help users in the creation, updating as well as extracting of information that is stored in the databases. At a time when the mainframes were the dominant computers in enterprise computing, the database management system (DBMS) architecture was never a big concern. This is because all programs depended and ran on the mainframes. Even for the implementation of mainframe DBMS, the overall system architecture would most likely consist of several (multiple) platforms as well as system software for the interpretation of the databases.
Experts in Information Technology must therefore include a robust database management representative organ that includes database administrators, data administrators as well as system administrators.
It is however crucial that the selected DBMS is the appropriate one for the kind of business as well as the processing type that is to be implemented. In essence, there are four main levels of database management system (DBMS) architecture that one can chose from and they include enterprise DBMS, departmental DBMS, personal DBMS as well as mobile DBMS.
The levels or types of DBMS
Enterprise DBMS
An enterprise level DBMS is a kind of a DBMS that is designed for both scalability and excellent performance. The DBMS system must be capable of seamlessly...
Another factor in open source database vendors leading this area is the focus on multiple models for scalability as can be seen in Table 1: DBMS Features Analysis. The support of multiple models of scalability also concentrates on OLTP transaction integration specifically within roles as defined in the security model (Pereira, Muppavarapu, Chung, 2006). Security will be discussed later in this analysis. The second factor used to evaluate closed source
By grouping related database queries into transactions, DBMS systems can guarantee that each transaction satisfies the ACID properties: Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, and Durability. However, if a database application is decomposed into transactions in an incorrect manner, the application may fail when executed concurrently. Concurrency control deals with the issues involved with allowing multiple people simultaneous access to shared entities (Ambler, 2004). A collision occurs when two activities, which may or
Unit Three writing assignment: How are partner relationship management (PRM) and employee relationship management (ERM) related to customer relationship management (CRM)? As the primary objective of CRM is to provide businesses with a 360 degree view of their customers, Partner Relationship Management (PRM) is used for providing companies a 360 degree view of their distribution channel partners. Employee Relationship Management (ERM) systems also use the same foundation of CRM, yet the
DBMS and Data Warehouses (1) in this writing assignment, you will create a brochure advertising your services as a data repository. Powered By Excellence Data Repository Service Powered By Excellence is the only data repository service with globally-located data centers across each continent, each with specific security, reliability and fault redundancy systems in place. Our staff includes world-class experts on the following platforms: IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, MySQL, Informix, Sybase, Teradata and SAS expertise in-house as
rich society, database management is an ever-expanding and increasingly important field. This paper discusses databases, database management systems (DBMSs), and their importance in today's society. Additional topics include the need for security, concurrency, and control within database management, as well as the role of the database administrator. A database can be defined as "a structure that can house information about multiple types of entities, the attributes of these entities, and
Management: Regardless of numerous efforts to define data, knowledge, and information, there are still some uncertainties and lack of clarity regarding what these three things are and the relationships that exist between them. While many descriptions of the three are relevant, most of these definitions are far from providing the clear picture of what the three really are. However, there are considerable differences between data, knowledge, and information though they
