Logic Gay Marriage

Gay marriage has become a prominent issue in American politics and society in recent years. DADT (Don't Ask Don't Tell), states legalizing gay marriage (and those who did not) and legal challenges brought by the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community have pushed this issue into the forefront. But as some would agree, the right of gays and lesbians to marry is an idea whose time has come. For years we've been sideling the issue of gay rights, with DADT, we told gays and lesbians in the military to hide who they are and not to openly discuss their relationships. Hundreds of men and women who have served our country well have been discharged from the military because the government doesn't approve of who they love. In churches across the country, it is preached that being gay is a sin, that homosexuality is something that people need to be "delivered" from. It is only in more recent years that experts no longer believe that homosexuality is a disease. Homosexuals were subject to shock therapy and treatments that we now consider inhumane in an effort to "cure" them of their "disease." I its place are now "ex-gay" ministries and organizations which claim to be able to turn gay individuals straight (or at least celibate). All these practices underscore the notion that if you are gay or lesbian, you're abnormal and therefore not worthy of the privileges awarded to the rest of society. If and when gays are granted the federal right to marry, this will provide gay and lesbian couples access to financial, tax and legal benefits currently only afforded to heterosexual married couples. So absolutely,...

It is not a church issue; religious dogma has no say in who should marry whom. Two consenting adults should be able to enter into a marriage contract regardless of gender, there should be no law forbidding two consenting adults to marry.
Argument for Gay Marriage

The institution of marriage gives a couple the dignity and respect to have their lifetime commitment recognized by the government.. Denying same-sex couples this union underscores their relationships and renders them second-class citizens. Civil unions and domestic partnerships are not the same; we don't see heterosexual couples entering into civil unions. Civil unions were designed to appease the LGBT community but are no way fair or the same as marriage. History has shown that "separate and equal" is a severely flawed doctrine, it has never worked. Homosexual couples can contribute to society, start families and enjoy enduring loving relationships. If America truly is "home of the free" how can we deny our citizens their basic rights and privileges? Homosexuals pay taxes in the same manner their straight counterpart's do, by denying them the right to marry we send the message that their money is acceptable, but it's them we don't want. And that is wrong.

Argument against Gay Marriage

If we allow gays to marry, what's next? Will dogs be able to marry, can a man marry his goat? Where will it end? Gays have civil unions isn't that enough? Why do they need the right to marry? God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Gays cannot procreate, they cannot join egg and sperm to produce offspring, therefore…
