¶ … letter to a friend encouraging that friend to take World Literature. The letter details several reasons that it would be a beneficial course to take and why it would be a positive step.
Dear Joe,
I am writing to let you know about an exciting and fulfilling course that I recently took at school and to encourage you to sign up for the same course next semester. The course is called World Literature and it is one of the best classes I have ever taken.
As you know from some of the previous literature courses we have taken together, they usually revolve around the literature and examining the works. This course offered that and so much more which I want to share with you to entice you to sign up for it.
The World Literature course is a course that provides so much more than simply reading and literature. The course allows you to research and learn about various cultures just because of the way the authors word their works.
The works that are studied in the course provide insight to spiritual issues, human life, and other issues that are important to life.
There are historic lessons to be learned as well. When you read the books and works that the course assigns you will develop a deep appreciation of ancestor lines and how they can be valuable in realizing who we are and how we came to be who we are today.
This course assigns works that we would not normally pick up and read for pleasure. It provides an assigned work that gives the reader insight to themes and aspects of life that focus on the importance of inner focus and life. Plato is a classic example of the works that are assigned. Plato wrote many works that cause the reader to reevaluate society and our place in society. As Plato suggests cultivating our own garden is important to the success of life and this course assigns several readings.
The World Literature course provides insight to history as well. When the readings are complete you will be able to visualize the world many years ago and the things that happened at that time. The changes in mankind and attitude are also evidenced by reading the literature of the old world.
Cultural differences are also clearly laid out through this course. They are detailed in several of the assigned works and show you how different people lived and how they thought at the time. Whether you want to learn about foods, dance, mindsets, religious faiths or other aspects of other cultures it can all be done through the assigned readings in this course.
The final reason you should take this course is the way it can be applied to today's life. Learning about the Native American understanding of botanical life can provide insight to the use of herbs today. Taking information from the readings and applying them to current life is easily accomplished through the chronological works assigned in this course.
Globalization is an ongoing and current process. With this process comes the need to understand other people and cultures besides Americans. The class will assist to this end by giving you a background understanding of various cultures around the world so that when you meet or work with others from around the world you will have a basic understanding of why they think they way they do.
