I understand my role in the industry as a perioperative nurse, delivering the best possible quality of care to patients and keeping abreast with the techniques that save lives. The next step is to understand the decision-making processes that are at the root of our work. Issues like financial allocation, budgeting, account management, and human resources development are areas in which I need to improve my knowledge. Seeing the bigger picture of the healthcare industry is my goal. Therefore, ethical and legal considerations as well as issues related to corporate culture and improving the workplace environment are part of my overall learning plan goal. The 2011 AORN Congress will be instrumental in helping me become a more effective leader in healthcare.
