Journal On A Lecture You Have Attended Essay

¶ … Journal on a Lecture You have Attended About Toothpaste Today I learnt about/attended a lecture about the effects of fluoride and this study on fluoride is a new factor. While it was known that there was propaganda for the use of fluoride and against it, the propaganda was mostly a result of commercial market warfare. The myths surrounding the use of fluoride and the way some of these misconceptions have been dispelled are new. Secondly the importance of advising the patients on their choice of tooth paste has been made clear. The link between chemicals used in tooth paste and the effects of the chemicals has now been made clear. The benefits of fluoride toothpaste are shown to prevent caries in children and adolescents. The benefits of the chemical can be noticed with an increased presence, for which there must be fluoride concentrations of 1000 ppm and above. Higher fluoride concentration helps the fight against tooth decay. The issue is whether fluorosis could result in excessive use especially with toddlers. The risk must be balanced in small children between use of the chemical and formation of caries. (Wong; Clarkson; Glenny; Lo; Marinho; Tsang; Walsh; Worthington, 2011)

2) What I found interesting/wanted to know more about/didn't understand was that while fluoride was being touted by every tooth paste company, why was I not aware of its benefits? I...

After the lecture I researched the matter and found that the general public cannot be blamed because one of the major markets that companies fought for from 1960s are oral hygiene products that included the toothpaste and toothbrush industries. Researches by Colgate and Ami went to the market with fluoride and the approval of American Dental Association for this was given way back in 1964. What was mixed with the toothpastes of different brands was differentiated in the market and this was marketing strategy and not necessarily the best source for the dentist for authentic information. (Segrave, 2010)
The market welcomed fluoride, which enabled the sale of crest tooth paste for a long time. However the professional looks for more proof to be for decades America's top-selling brand. Now it can be shown authentically that toothpaste with flouride does have positive effects. The new toothpastes contain monofluorophosphate -- NaMFP, sodium fluoride -- NaF, and aqueous solutions. Researches indicate that there was some additional protective effect for the AmF beyond the simple free fluoride ion concentration. It is also known to stop demineralization and/or enhance remineralization, and help preserve the formation of dental enamel. (Toda; Featherstone, 2008) Now…

Words: 4743 Length: 17 Document Type: Term Paper

Amy attended the county's administrator forum, it became clear that the rumor mill about the "Good Ole' Boys" network was not exaggerated. Sitting across the table from fifteen district superintendents, not one in the bunch was a woman. There was only one other woman in assembled group, who like Amy held a lower position on her district's administrative team. Just as Amy had done her entire career, she made

Research Questions: Unfortunately, as promising as the potential benefits of incorporating brain-based, active learning, inquiry-based, hands-on participation, and multiple intelligence-based methods of academic instruction is, comprehensive programs of this nature are largely unavailable on a wide scale, owing to budgetary considerations. However, since virtually every tested addition of multidimensional instruction has been associated with beneficial results (Schroeder & Spannagel 2006), intuition would suggest that the addition of instruction via educational programming

The first special screening I saw hits closer to home because it is about the BP oil drilling fiasco that occurred only last year. The Big Fix is a film by director Josh and Rebecca Tickell that documented the problems brought about by the largest oil spill in history. The film did not only center on the actual disaster but what went on behind the scenes. By exposing the

If possible, the research could be continued over six years, tracing the graduation rates of three classes in direct relation to the amount of classes missed, studying the trends of missing lectures. Expected Outcomes of the Study It makes reasonable sense to believe that students, more stressed in academia now than ever before, are missing lectures not because of lack of respect for their teachers and learning environments, but instead because

Heard the Learned Astronomer Walt Whitman's Poems
Words: 608 Length: 2 Document Type: Peer Reviewed Journal

Heard the Learned Astronomer Walt Whitman's poems draw upon many aspects of the natural world. Whitman as a poet is obsessed with the beauty of the natural scenery and also the beauty of the body. Thus, to some extent I find the subject matter of "When I Heard the Learned Astronomer" to be rather strange, given that it depicts a very negative view of a scientist. In the poem, the

Students Will Select a Construct of Interest My construct of interest is whether there are any prejudice tests that can accurately measure prejudice to races other than Blacks. Do the currently available standardized tests on prejudice measure prejudice to individuals other than Black people? Conduct research on other assessments used to measure the same or similar construct, The Modern Racism Scale According to the SAGE Handbook of prejudice, Stereotyping and Discrimination (Dovidio, 2010), the scale
