Jesus/Mohammed Both Jesus And Mohammed Term Paper

The impact each has had on their respective followers, as well as the millions of other individuals who choose not to follow their teachings is overwhelming in nature. For two individuals who lived so many centuries ago to still hold sway over such a large portion of the population is a testament to their influence. Currently both Mohammed and Jesus are honored on special days throughout the year, and more than that they are also venerated and revered every single day by millions of faithful followers of their respective teachings.

The teachings of Jesus are currently being presented through the Christian Bible and primarily through the four gospels of the New Testament. These four books were written approximately forty to sixty years after the death of Jesus and relate the stories of his life and times. "What Christians believe about Jesus' life and teachings is based largely on biblical texts, primarily the first four books of the New Testament...they are based on the oral transmission of the stories and discourses, which may have been influenced by the growing split between Christians and Jews" (Fisher, 2005, p. 285). These four books; the gospels, were supposedly written by close companions of Jesus. The close companions were known as his disciples, and they shared his life and traveled with him as he taught and preached to the people in the land. Many of the teachings found in these gospels were geared towards the poor and lower classes in society.

Mohammed teachings are not to be found in the Christian Bible, but can be found in the Quran.

386). According to Fisher, many Muslims follow Mohammed's teachings and sayings because he was such a perfect example of how to live according to the Quran. The Quran is supposedly the words of Gabriel as recited to Mohammed during revelations received periodically when Mohammed would go on spiritual retreats.
Mohammed and Jesus have both had, and continue to have an overwhelming impact on their respective religions, as well as on the world in general. Christianity is the largest religion practiced in the world, while Islam is not far behind. The name of Jesus, as well as the name of Mohammed has been the cause of much bloodshed, tears and despair. Yet at the same time both have brought comfort, hope and charity throughout the world as well. Muslims have fought Jews, who have fought Christians, who have fought Muslims all in the name, or names, of their respective prophets or religion. Christ and Mohammed are two of those primary names. Wars have been fought, buildings toppled, and millions of lives affected, both for good, and for evil, all in the names of these two men. The irony of all this is that both taught tolerance and love for their fellow mankind.

" Relgious leaders worried about loss of power and income ("Biography of Mohammed," 2005). This is an interesting parallel to Jesus' life, because Jesus also worried the religious leaders of his time for similar reasons (Wikipedia, 2000). Mohammed and Abu Talib fled Mecca, and his uncle hid him in a fortified castle away from the city. Within ten to fifteen years (accounts vary), Mohammed moved to the city of Medina, where
