An overview of international strategy (why plan globally?)

Global planning is essential so that resources are coordinated in such as way to gain competitive advantage over companies beyond our borders

Being able to compete globally will open up many more organizational opportunities look into the global strategic planning process, consisting of these steps:

Analyzing our external environments (competition, for example)

Consider our internal environment (such as company strengths and weaknesses)

Define our business and mission (what do we do and how we do it)

Set corporate objectives (where do we want to go from here)

Quantify goals (how to measure progress)

Formulate strategies (what is the plan)

Make tactical plans (carry out the plan for results)

Forecast of changes in the business environment affecting strategic planning

Competitors enter or exit the market

Our company changes internally or externally

Competition changes in some way

New products or markets emerge

Details of the relationship between strategic planning and organizational design

An understanding of how a focus on strategy allows for proper formation of the organizational strategy

Strategic planning helps define the organization in line with the goals of the organization over the short- and long-term

Assessment of the types of controls in an international company

-Down Control-Management dictates policy and controls strategy

-Up Control-Plans originate in the lowest levels of the organization and rise

Iterative Control- Control comes from top and bottom until balance is realized
