The practicing of the nurses is under the constant control from the state board nursing of a country. Every country has its own state boards that play the role of regulating the number of practicing nurses through the provision of practice license, determining the scope of practice for the nurses, and handling any conflicts related to the nursing practice. Various factors necessitate the control mechanisms provided by the state boards of regulating the nursing practice. For example, nurses should ensure the provision of quality care to the clients alongside minimizing injuries to them. This is only possible with the regulations provided by the state boards of nursing to ensure adherence to the stated performance ethics and scope of practice. Therefore, the following analysis focuses on various issues related to the roles of the state boards of nursing in regulating the practice of the nurses. In specific, it focuses on the ways in which the states regulate advanced nursing practice as stated by Thomas, Thomas, Benbow, & Ayars (2010) alongside the analysis of the ways in which the NYS Board of Nursing regulates the practicing of the advanced nursing in the U.S. It also analyzes the policies developed recently by the NYS to address the needs of the nurses, health organizations, and the public.

Regulating the practice of the advanced nurses can be achieved with the adoption of various strategies that aim at ensuring that the advanced nurses practice within their scope of practice. Among the regulatory strategies identified by Barton (2009) in his article to regulate the practicing of the advanced nurses from the study, include licensing the advanced nurses and nurses obtaining continuing education credit for them to be considered suitable to practice as advanced nurses. Similarly, the author found out that acknowledging the national specialty of the advanced practicing nurses is an effective tool for regulating the practice of the advanced nurses. Acknowledging the specialty of the advanced practicing nurses promote the regulations adopted by the regulatory bodies by signifying the need for continued competency for the nurses, thereby, quality care provision and positive outcomes for the clients.
The legislation affects the performance and practicing of the nurses significantly. The regulations imply that the nurses should ensure they achieve continued education by enrolling in programs that will improve their knowledge on the provision of quality healthcare to the clients. The regulations also imply that the reduction in the number of nurses enrolling for the advanced nursing practice due to the varied requirements stated by the state boards of nursing.
