Water is the other main source of energy which is used in the house, for washing dishes such as in the dishwasher, washing clothes, having showers, washing the car and watering the lawn. Gas is used for an emergency generator in the case of a power cut to the house, and also for some of the tools such as the lawnmower. Logs are also burned on the fire in the winter.
Areas in the home where energy efficiency could be improved: Energy efficiency could be improved by making sure that all electrical items are turned off after use as many are left on standby. The computer is often also left on when not in use. Using appliances like the washing machine and dishwasher less often would also reduce energy consumption. Turning lights off in the house when they are not being used would improve energy efficiency, and also putting the hot water system on a timer instead of having it on all day.
What I learnt from the audit about local energy sources: The main thing I learnt from the energy audit was that the power plant which provides our electricity may be producing many different problems for the environment and the health of the local population. This highlighted how important it may be...

However, dependence on one single form of renewable energy will not be practical as all geographical regions within the United Kingdom have their own geographical features and all energy uses have their own specific requirements. For this reason, a diverse range of renewable energy resources will have to be used suiting each geographical location and the use of energy. A professional auditor can use a variety of techniques and equipment to determine the energy efficiency of your home. Thorough audits often use equipment such as blower doors, which measure the extent of leaks in the building envelope, and infrared cameras, which reveal hard-to-detect areas of air infiltration and missing insulation" (Home energy audits, 2009, EPA). Follow-up Following up with satisfied customers (and unsatisfied customers) also enables better quality control and

' The bulbs will pay for themselves in about six months and use 75% less energy and the light bulb lasts ten times longer than a standard bulb (CFL, 2009, EPA). Replacing windows and doors with energy-insulating models, although initially expensive, can result in savings over time, especially in areas that are very cold very warm or both. Other types of upgrading cost next to nothing at all -- turning off
